  • Green Tea - Induction Phase?

I'm a huge green tea drinker. When I prepare it, I only use three tea bags in a pitcher of water and ice. Is this something that I can continue when I start Atkins tomorrow? I couldn't find anything on green tea during phase one. Or, I'm just not looking in the correct places!

    Thanks in advance,

    Sam

Green tea is fine for Induction. DANDR strongly recommends decaf. Not sure what "huge green tea drinker" means but based on your recipe for a pot of tea, that would be fine. Remember to count the tea carbs and if you use sweetener, limit to 3/day and count those too.

I normally make a pitcher with only three green tea bags, and drink it cold, not hot. Normally, a pitcher last me about 2 1/2 days. I also drink a ton of water, but I'm wondering if I should slow down on the tea, depending on the carbs? I used to drink the caffeinated tea, but I'll be switching to the non-caffinated tomorrow.

I don't use any sweetner, so I'm sure that helps!

Here's a nutrition fact link I found for the tea that I'm making.

Green tea has so many health benefits that I don't see why you would need to slow down with it. I have not heard of plain, unsweetened green tea slowing down weight loss at all. Dr. Atkins felt that caffeine could cause cravings in some so that is why decaf is recommended.

Carb count for green tea is very small. One bag = .3g net carb. For ease in computing, your 3-bag pot = 1g net carb. Sounds like you're all set in the beverage department! (water and green tea)

Just remember that tea doesn't count as water.

How much water is "a ton", exactly?

I'm well aware that Green Tea doesn't count as water, hence, the reason I started this thread.

I drink approximately 11 8oz glasses of water per day, moreso if it's warmer out. That's my regular consumption. Most people I've come across (before discovering this forum) are lucky to drink one 8oz glass of water per day.

Many have success with drinking 1/2 their current weight in ounces of water. And you would need to have an extra glass for each glass of tea.

Thank you so much for the reply. Can you explain a bit further what you mean by "1/2 their current weight in ounces of water"? I'm just not understanding it...maybe it's past my bed time...LOL.

Half of my current weight would be 103.5lbs. That amount in ounces = 1680. Am I lost or what????!!!

Re: Green Tea - Induction Phase?

Misunderstanding here... don't fret... if half your current weight is 103.5lbs, then the suggestion of "1/2 their current weight in ounces of water" would mean to drink about 103.5 oz of water!

BTW i think the green tea is terrific in conjuction w/ Atkins since it is very alkaline and this sets your body up for great energy and has a positive effect on weight loss, just something i've read recently.

Good Luck, sounds like you're on the right track!
