  • Some positive news for newbies (or all)

Speaking of newbies, this is my first post!

Back in July of 09, I started out at 301 pounds (I'm a 25 year old 6'1 male)...had to make a change! So I started what is a slightly modified Atkins diet (in my mind). I followed the 14 day induction as indicated - and dropped to 283 after two weeks - 17 pounds! Very little exercise involved.

After the two weeks, I threw in some whole wheat bread and whole grains, not a lot, but enough to satisfy. I front loaded my carbs (eating the carbs that I did consume mostly before 1:00 PM). I counteracted this addition of carbs with about 4 days a week of cardio - about 30-45 minutes each day of maximum incline walking on the treadmill, 4.5 MPH max, 3.8 MPH minimum.

I was down to 250 by early fall - I believe September/October. I flatlined during november, with work and social troubles interfering. Went off a steady diet. I was at 256 between Thanksgiving and Christmas - closer to Christmas.

Starting new years, I went back to the steady diet/exercise combo (more carbs this time because of more exercise), and by March i was at 240.

I really kicked the exercise into another gear after march, eating granola, kashi, wheat bread etc. in the morning to jump start the day. I was alternating walking/running for an hour (walk 60 seconds, jog 2 minutes) about 5 times a week. By April I lost another 10 pounds and made it to 230!

However, following a very similar eating/exercise plan, I found it almost impossible to get past 228/229 without exercising EVERY day and running/walking for at least an hour/4 miles per day.

3 days ago, I started induction again for the first time since last July, and I've dropped from 229 to 223 in just those 3 days!

Here's to induction working - twice - for me...and most definitely you!

My goal is 200 by July, for a nice smooth 100 pounds in a year, however 195 is my final goal.

I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has! It's actually really fun! I've been lurking these boards for almost a year and I figured I'd post something!

Welcome to ADBB and congrats on the weight lost so far!

As you know from "lurking" the board, ADBB follows the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, not randomly modified Atkins diets.

One certainly doesn't need granola, kashi and wheat bread to "jump start the day".

I think it's good that you gave these up and, hopefully, this time decided to follow the plan the way Dr. Atkins wrote it. If one follows the plan correctly, then one doesn't need to do Induction twice.

Welcome to ADBB and I am glad you decided to 'decloak' and join in the forums

Will you move to OWL straight after your first 2 weeks on induction and start to find your CCLL and if any foods affect you adversely this time around?

Many of our members are able to do a lot of exercise and even run marathons while on induction or the lower rungs of OWL so adding grains back in so early is not really necessary once your body is a fatburning machine!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
