  • Few Question on Starting Again

Looks like I have been doing it all wrong the last month or 2. Just found my book and want to start it off right. Last time i did this, about 5 years ago, I lost 42 lbs eating like 1 lb of bacon a day and then went back to my old habits. few questions

    1. Kraft ranch Dressing, carbs 2g serving, Is this good during Induction? I do not eat any type of veggis at all but a little lettuce and few servings of ranch helps with that.

    2. When the book says you need fat, What does he mean by that? Is it fat as in oil or fat like bacon? Would cheese be a form of fat?

I am having problems of getting out of the habit of not eating during the day. I go all day long and eat nothing at all then at 9pm or 11pm I eat till I am stuffed. I am just not hungry during the day and been like this for years. Now I try to eat a little during the day when i think about it but i still have to get stuffed at midnight. I hope starting the right way can help me get over this.

Without vegetables, you can't do Atkins.

See Chapter 11, Rule #3 of the Rules of Induction.

Funny how i lost 42 lbs last time with no vegetables at all and you say i can not do it. well section 1 page 64 says you may develop a taste for it later and like i said I can eat a little lettuce, so why not provide information instead of telling me nothing useful to my question

Fat can mean oil, the fat in meat, the fat in cheese, the fat in any food.

The Induction chapter, Chapter 11, has a section on Fats and Oils and what are the ones to use. That should help you.

Re: Few Question on Starting Again

thanks for the info. I am starting to read the book again and did not get that far yet, i guess i am jumping the gun. It has been a few years.

My problem with veggis is that i never had to eat them. In 35 years i never had to eat any so now when i try to eat them i puke. No matter what i try, i puke right there on the spot. I have tried them cooked, raw, killed with everything imaginable and just can not get them down. I do not even like bitter candy. I can eat little cauliflower if it is frozen then chop it up in food processor then down 1 teaspoon at a time with a mouth full of water.. I know it is all in my head and i do really wish i can find one i can eat. I do not understand how people can like veggis and be overweight. but like i said i have tried everything and nothing works. I have tried soaking some in milk and deep frying it in lard and in bacon grease and still puke. Covered in cheese and sugar and still no. I have eaten meat all my life and family has about 200 heads of cattle and about 25 pigs so my family is big meat eaters and big problem is My family also have about an 800 acrea rice farm. Hard for a cajun to kick a rice habbit.

I would discuss this with your doctor.

Bottom line ... Atkins is about the vegetables.

                All meat isn't Atkins.

Maybe you should find a diet that is more in line with what you will eat?

You can't expect to live much longer without eating vegi's. Are you sure the puking part is not all psychological? Like the other poster said, you should see a Dr about that problem.

How can you really not eat any vegi's in you're whole life? I am not trying to be offensive, I have just never been able to ask anyone this question before. I see people on TV who don't eat them, and wanted to know why they never had. I have eaten them in huge quantities my whole life. I just used to eat the bad stuff right along with it, so I just took out the bad stuff and kept the good stuff.

Re: Few Question on Starting Again

well never had to eat them growing up. My parents owned a grocery store so i just ate chips and crap i get out of the store. Parents never cooked since they worked all the time. Now in my mid 30's i just can not get them down. I Been trying for years and will not happen. I eat potatoes but that is not really a good vegetable. I can eat bbq beans with bbq. I can not even eat mushrooms. No corn unless it is corn chips. It sucks. Not even pickels on a McDonalds Burger. I can eat onions when they are in the food processor and liquidized then cooked into the food where i do not see them.

I know it is not good for me and i am trying to change it. Many friends and family tried to help me over come this and it will not happen. I can not even eat them when we go out to restaurants . I am not that fat, I only want to loose 20 lbs or so. I am at 245 as this morning.

2 years ago I ended up with gout in left foot. Doctor said it was due to way to much protein in my body. So i started eating more carbs to solve that problem as in rice, bread, cake, chips and all junk food. Not a good thing.

Have you tried hypnosis? I am not saying that as a joke. It may be something that will help you.
I don't think you should go on an all bacon or meat diet. It did not work well for you last time and chances are things will not work this time. Maybe look at an alternative diet. Perhaps look into paleo and see if that would work for you

Re: Few Question on Starting Again

It really does not matter how fat you are you still need vegi's to live. It is a fact we are omnivores. My ex husband is 5'9 and almost 200 pounds, he is a body builder all solid muscle. If he stopped eating vegi's I believe he would eventually die. Reversing the gout could have been better handled with adding healthy carbs.

So any word on if you will be seeing a Dr? I am 35 and if I know something is good for me and I don't like it, I eat it anyway. I know it is going to nourish my body, so there fore it is something I have to do in my mind. I always tell my children to keep trying things because you never know if you will like it this time or not. More times than not they like it. My 7 year old did throw up after eating spinach , she likes all the other ones though.

I wish you good luck on this because it is very important. Please see a Dr.

Re: Few Question on Starting Again

this one has worked for me in the past. I just jumped off the band wagon and took a few years to gain most of it back. Last time from what i remember i ate mostly meat, eggs, cheese it I was able to drop 42 lbs in about 3 months or so. Now I would like to try it again to drop the 20 lbs or so and fit in some old clothes. I am active and tend to work out from time to time. But It has to start with changing of eating habits. At least this time around i can eat lettuce where as in the past i could not even eat that. Hoping once i kick my carb problem, I might find at-least 1 or 2 vegetables i can eat. If i can only find 1 healthy one then i will be happy. **** if i can find that, i would have never have got to where i am now.

A friend i work with is like 58 or so and his wife is the same way. She will not even eat lettuce. He was telling me there are 3 or 4 in his family that eat no vegetables at all not even corn. He is not from around here and thinks it is a southern cajun thing. I just do not like nothing bitter at all not even bitter candy. **** i even eat alligator but one vegetable.

Re: Few Question on Starting Again

You can certainly do what you did last time. However, it was never Atkins, nor will it be this time.

If you do eat just mean, eggs, and cheese, please don't contribute to the mis-information that's out there already by saying you're "doing Atkins".

By the way, corn isn't a vegetable, it's a grain.

There's over 50 vegetables on the Induction food list ... none expect lettuce?

went over the veg list and this is what i can handle parsley, peppers (green bell peppers from food processor), Lettuce, romaine (mixed in bag with iceburg lettuce), scallions, onion (food processor) O i forgot, I was able to eat fresh spinach at one time. It did not have any taste at all. I was able to eat 2 cups of spinach about 1 month ago.
