  • I need some grab'n'go food suggestions!

    Hi,

I am just starting today. I am not a big recipe person. Just want to keep it simple. So I am a grab and go person. What can I eat during the day at work? I will eat salad and meat for dinner or another vegetable besides salad. I just need grab and go food up until dinner time. Please help.

    Thanks,
    Gloria

    Hi knee,

What I like to do once or twice a week is to make a big platter of something. Either 2-3 days worth of cooked hamburgers, a big quiche or casserole, or a stew. I just bring in the big pot or pyrex I cooked it in, put it in the work fridge, and voila- I have 3 days worth of lunches. Another good idea is to buy bagged salads and bring in some additions- like bacon bits, hard boiled eggs, avocado, and dressing and you can make a salad at work.

      Hi Gloria

I often make a crustless quiche (recipe in the recipes database in my signature) using veggies and meat as well as the cream/cheese/eggs so I have a good balanced amount of fat/protein/carbs in it and so I can easily grab a slice or two to either eat cold on the go or heat up.

How about tunafish +mayo or egg salad?

You can also cut up cucumbers, celery, peppers, tomatoes (i prefer cherry tomatoes, they travel better and are really yummy!), bring along a dip or dressing so that u will feel full from the fat content. Sometimes i make an omlet + trimmings and nuke it in the microwave - this is fast and easy and i don't have to scrub the frying pan.

Also chicken parts work well if u want to have meat 4 lunch.

i agree with Elizellen about the crustless quiche, even if you are not into recipes, it's still quite easy to prepare, it's like making an omlet w/ a ton more of veggies than usual, + cream + cheese...i make this in the toaster oven, if i sautee the veggies in advance i nuke it in the microwave...i admit to laziness...but trying to do what it takes. If quiche is not 4 u, cut up tomatoes, peppers and onions and put some yellow cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, anything that melts) and stick it in the microwave.

          All the ideas are great.

You know if you have any left overs for dinner you can eat that for breakfast.

Do you work? Do you have access to a microwave.

You will need to plan, plan, plan to be successful.

I find www.genaw.com/lowcarb has great recipes.

Some of my favorite grab and go foods are deviled eggs, string cheese, pre-cut veggies, tuna salad on a bed of greens, and cucumbers with spinach dip or cream cheese. Later on, nuts and seeds are great, as are fresh berries, especially with sugar free heavy cream I also like to bake and BBQ chicken wings with Franks Red Hot sauce and keep a batch in the fridge. They are good hot or cold, especially with ranch dressing! I also BBQ a bunch of chicken thighs and chop them to toss on salads or make fajita salad with.

I keep salad dressing, mayo & cheese in the fridge at work. I bring leftovers or a salad with meat/fish/eggs for lunch most days. I pre-make & freeze my breakfasts for workdays on the week-end - I use crustless quiche or MUPs http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...up-please.html.
I am a recipe person, so this would not work for me, but you could roast a chicken or a pot roast or...& use that & bagged salad (no carrots!) as grab & go items for the daytime.
