  • Question about Ketosis???

    Good evening everyone, I've been on induction for about 3 weeks, but I'm not in ketosis, does anyone know how and if I can kick my body into ketosis?? Thanks.

    Have you been losing weight?

    Basically the ketones tell us that our body is in lipolysis, so even if the stick is not turning purple its possible your not making enough ketones to show up on the stick.
    Im 5'6" and a 1/4

    Weigh 263 since tue april 20th 2010

    week 1- 257.6
    week 2 - 258.8

    Ultimate goal I can say 160ish but I dont even know if my body would allow that!

      Thanks for the reply, I've lost about 8 lbs but I feel like my weight loss has stalled.I've done atkins in the past so I know how it feels to be in ketosis. I've been eating the Atkins shakes and bars, and sugar free jello probably more than I should, I want to do a clean induction, only drinking water and no snacks, if I was to start this tommorrow, how long do you think it would take to kick my body back into ketosis? Thanks again.

        Maybe someone more qualified can answer, but I think it takes about three days to really get there.

          Thanks! good luck to you as well! Last question I promise! even though I've been messing up, if I start being strict, my body will eventually go into ketosis right? I'm scared that since I've technically been doing the diet, that I won't go into ketosis. Thanks again! no more questions I promise!!

            The best way to tell if your in ketosis or not is if your losing weight, have a metallic taste in your mouth, possible HORRIBLE breath, and/or being really thirsty

                Not everyone experiences the "side effects" of ketosis.

                Relying on the sticks is futile, as you can be in ketosis and not turn the sticks. You can turn the sticks and not be doing Atkins properly. You can turn the sticks and not lose weight.

                The best thing for you to do is to "start strict", do Atkins properly, and don't rely on what color your pee turns a stick to tell you how you're doing.

                    Thanks for the replies. The only reason that I'm relying on the side effects is because I have done this diet at least 3 times and I always get the side effects. and when I first started this diet 3 weeks ago, I was experiencing the "side effects" It wasn't until I started eating the Atkins shakes and bars and diet sodas and sugar free jello that I felt myself leave ketosis. My question is can I go back strict and jump back into ketosis?

                      I think you just answered your own question If you were in ketosis before adding those things to your diet, and now you're not in ketosis, removing those things and staying on a clean induction will mostly likely kick you right back into ketosis

                        AHHH! Diet Sodas ... Definitely NO-GO!! There is a bunch of Aspartame in it, which is dangerous to us Atkins Followers

                        Aspartame is addictive and actually CREATES sweet cravings ... It's like fighting fire with wind. Trust me, once the headaches are gone, you won't want the soda pop.

                          I would stop eating these things then. If you're having all these on the same day, you're going over the sweetener limit.
