  • Still Having ketosis problems

    Now that i am not eating anything at all off the approved list, I still can not get into ketosis. I have been able to the lat few times years ago and just wondering what i am doing wrong now. Maybe something wrong with my menu?

    Breakfest (never hungry but eat a little anyway)

    3 or 4 jimmydean breakfest sausage
    130 grams or so of egg salad made from eggs ,mayo, traces of canola oil, sourcream and mustard.
    or sometimes
    200 grams ground beef mixed with 29g of onions(1/4 cup) hamburger patty with 18 grams or so of mayo All this yelds after cooked 120 grams or so that goes into my body


    Lunch

    50 grams lettuce (1cup)
    18 to 30 grams of kraft ranch dressing
    turkey of beef patty mixed with 1/4 cup frozen onions and green bell peppers mixed all cooked yelds around 160 grams or so
    sometimes 75 oz cooked bacon not every day

    Night time


    lettuce (1 cup) 50 grams
    18 to 30 grams ranch
    either chicken or turkey 100 grams or so mixed in lettuce
    some times 75 oz cooked bacon
    either
    sometimes 160 grams or so of egg salad made from eggs ,mayo, traces of canola oil, sourcream and mustard

    eat crushed ice during the day and drink over 80 oz of water a day closer to 120 oz water a day (depends on time outside working). Having serious problems with veggis, So i have to work around what i do eat. I have tried green beans (raw and cooked with butter) for a snack, no way i will ever try that again I will live fat before i eat that again. I puked in my kitchen sink.

    Maybe today i will try broccoli.


    Fit day says I burn over 3,000 cals a day not counting my workouts or time active outside. I take in about 1,600 cals and average 18 carbs 2 fiber but this is wrong. I know it is less carbs

    cals from fat 70% Protein 25%

    weight stays the same 246 in the am
    and 244 at night for over a week sometimes 247 in am and 243 at night

    The sugar in the sausage, bacon and dressing would be my guess. I can only get the uncured stuff because it isn't cured with sugar. Have you tried mixing the veggies in with other stuff like hamburger? That works for me when i can't stomach anymore veggies. I am making beef tips mixed with mushrooms for instance. Lots of recipes you can sneak in the veggies. Good luck. I am sure you will get lots more good advice.

      What do you mean you cannot get into ketosis? Are you measuring it with sticks.

      That is a very unreliable way to find out if you are in ketosis. Much better to use the scale and to measure.

      I would also look for the "hidden" sugars. Read list of ingredients - not just labels. And I would add more veggies with fiber. Lettuce is like water - hardly anything to it. You need nutrients.

        I am working with the veggis i can eat. I am trying others a little at a time but i can not eat them. 35years with no veggis it is hard to just start eating them 1 day. Even mixing them in does not work that well. Add up all the ones i am eating and it is roughly 2 1/2 to 3 cups a day. At least i can eat lettuce now. I could not even eat that till 4 months ago.

        I will stop with the sausage and bacon and see how it goes. I plan on making my own bacon sometimes next week so that should be fun. Was eating bacon because book says , need a lot of fat and thought it was better than just drinking cooking oil. Seems like every dam thing i have has some type of sugar in it. It is not the 3rd ingredient like the book says. Seems most of it is last in the ingredients and just a trace the labels say 1g or less. Funny because it sure seems like i am supose to eat nothing but veggis but not high in carbs but not low either as per lettuce. Or plain meat. Even ranch dressing has 1g or sugar. everything has it

        O i forgot, I am using the sticks but not only they are not changing colors, I do not have bad breath or a bad taste in my mouth. From what i remember last time a few years ago i also had funny smelling sweat. I have been in it a few times in the past but this time around i seem to not be able to get into it.

          How long have you been on induction, Vinny?
          Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            I'm sorry, but this made me LOL!

            I have no trouble finding sources of fat for my menu... butter, ranch dressing, cheese, coconut oil... Bacon is allowed but supposed to be limited as it is often cured with sugar and high in nitrates. I love it though, and what other diet allows you to eat bacon! It's true that ranch dressing has some sugar in it, and I'm guessing that it's from lactose since it's a milk product, but maybe not. If I couldn't get the scale to move at all, I would cut out everything with added sugar first. You will have to make friends with veggies, I can't imagine anyone enjoying good health without them. If you can handle them dipped in ranch dressing, it would be worth not cutting out the ranch to get the extra veggies in, and ranch is a good source of fat, without resorting to drinking cooking oil;-)

              Don't rely on the sticks. They're not reliable. Even if they worked for you in the past, they might not be working now.

                What book are you reading?

                That's not a must.

                You really don't know whether or not you're in ketosis.

                  If you drink a ton of water it will show that you are not in ketosis or have very very low traces....if you are losing weight then thats my guess.

                    1. no bad taste or bad breath, stick does not change color, no indication i am in ketosis.
                    2. I drink a lot of water. Some days over a gallon, depends on what i am doing, I sweat a lot working outside.
                    3. Bacon i am eating is maybe 3 or 4 slices, I weight it cooked with gram scale.
                    4. Drinking oil was meant as a joke, I am not that crazy
                    5. Reading 2002 atkins book
                    6. Trying to get into ketosis for over 3 weeks now but was pointed out i been doing it wrong, To much splenda and cream cheese so i cut it out. No splenda and cheese at all and 1 oz cream cheese in 4 days now.

                    I take in about 1600 to 1800 cals a day average and fitday says 18 carbs but it is more like 12 carbs from my view.

                    I know i am not suppose to drink veggis but i have this am. Maybe i can get a taste for it if i drink it a few times. I blended 1/2 cup of broccoli in 22oz water and killed it. Have to start somewhere after not eating them for 35 years. If i try the other way i puke right where i am standing. (happened with green beans yesterday).

                    I will cut out bacon and JimmyDean breakfest sausage and see if that is screwing me up. Have to keep the ranch to help with veggis. Plan on doing a lot of sweating today so will see if that works as well.

                      fitday says 18 carbs
                      FitDay shows total carbs. You need to calculate the net carbs yourself, by subtracting fiber from carbohydrate.

                      it is more like 12 carbs from my view.

                      You should not juice vegetables (tomatoes are an exception). Blending them is perfectly fine. You are still getting all the nutrients and fiber.

                          Why don't you focus on eating properly?

                          Seems to me your "focus" is all wrong.

                          You're worrying too much about some "signs" and not enough about the food.

                              Well still now showing any signs of ketosis but I do feel better and looks like i dropped a few lb's. Maybe I am drinking to much water and it is just diluted so it will not read on the stick. Still have no bad breath or anything but we will see. I go back to Doctors next week for check up so I can go off their scale. I am seeing 241 now so about a 4 lb loss. I have screwed up yesterday so I have to start all over today. I had 2 atkins bas yesterday. Even though they said safe for induction, i know I was not suppose to have them but I was hungry and was out of food. **** I have over 200 of them i got from ebay so can not really through them out. Almost $300 worth. I will put them in the freezer till I lose a few more.

                              Today I will try to eat cauliflower. I see you can do a lot with it so hope i can start liking it. So far it is a no go but I will try many things with it. I will be happy if i can find at leat 1 good veggie. It will be better than drinking it frozen/blended
