  • 4 days in and a few questions...

    Hello Everyone,

I am on day 4 of Induction and so far everything is going well.

First day (Monday) was AWFUL, I felt horrible, nausea, headaches, tiredness......I wanted to quit but said to myself that I had already suffered through one day and it would be for nothing if I gave up now so I had a long bath and sleep instead.

Tuesday was an improvement and yesterday and today I am full of energy, feeling positive and was out power walking the last 2 mornings in the steep hills surrounding my apartment.

My scales have gone from 83 kilos Sunday to 79 this morning.....I guess thats nearly 9 pounds but it goes up and down through out the last few days. Is this normal? My clothes are a teeny tiny bit looser also.

I made Lindas crustless quiche last night as I wanted to have something easy for breakfast so I made it with spinach, pepper, onion, bacon......but on fitday I cannot enter 'crustless' quiche. How can I figure out the carbs? Also the ingredients in the quiche, I assume they count towards the carb intake?

Since I started I have not touched nor even glanced at coffee, sugar, sweets, chips, fizzy drinks, alcohol, bread, pasta, potatoes ALL the stuff that are not allowed. I am drinking nearly 3 litres of water a day and have started power walking for an hour. I basiclly have been eating either Omlette/eggs for breakfast
Grilled chicken served with green salad with red peppers and mayo dressing OR cauliflower
Merquez (its a bbq sausage)OR bacon OR steak with some cheese.

Not very creative I know but last night I made a crustless quiche and it was fab I had 2 slices for breakfast and for my lunch today I have packed 1 chicken breast with mayo, 2 boiled eggs, and a small slice of quiche.
Dinner will be fish and spinach leaves. Does all this seem ok? I am counting and weghing out vegtables and salad and I seem to be keeping just under 20 carbs a day.

Also (and this is a strange question) when I pee there is oily trace on my urine, is this normal? I do not have the ketois sticks as they dont sell them here in the south of France so I can't test myself.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give

    Kindest Regards to all.

    Mon Amour

Yes, daily weight fluctuations are perfectly normal.

on fitday I cannot enter 'crustless' quiche
And you shouldn't. You should calculate the nutritional values for the whole recipe and then add it as a custom food in FitDay.

To do this, you can either use an empty day in FitDay, enter all the ingredients there and FitDay will give you the totals... or, what I do, is use Nutrition Data. Nutrition Data allows you to enter/save recipes... and then you can copy the totals in FitDay using the "Create a Custom Food" option.

Also the ingredients in the quiche, I assume they count towards the carb intake?
    Yep. Everything counts.

for my lunch today I have packed 1 chicken breast with mayo, 2 boiled eggs, and a small slice of quiche.

Sounds good, but you might be undereating your vegetables. Eating close to 20 net carbs, with over half of them coming from Induction vegetables, should give you proper nutrition.

    20 carbs a day.
Don't forget to subtract the fiber in FitDay. We're counting net carbs.

However, keep in mind that if you are using nutritional info listed on labels, the carbs there are net carbs. It's a non-American thing... different ways of labeling.

Also (and this is a strange question) when I pee there is oily trace on my urine, is this normal?
That can happen if you're not on Atkins as well.

To see if you have any of the physical signs of ketosis, you can check this FAQ:

But what matters is that you've lost weight. If you follow Induction correctly, you will be in ketosis... regardless of what a stick says.

What? Im easily confused... since shes in France her carbs listed on the label are already listed as the Net Carb, and Americas is not.... is that what you're saying???

Cause I have been subtracting the fiber from my carbs to find the Net Carb count.

If you're in the US, you're fine.

In the UK and the EU, fiber is not considered a carbohydrate, so it's not included in the carbohydrate count, so there's nothing to subtract.

The only thing I have eaten out of a packet is cheese and bacon. All the rest is just vegtables, meat, fish and eggs from the market........what would come out of a packet on induction? I am doing a clean induction as we dont have any of the Atkins products down here (I have just looked quickly in the big supermarket and there is nothing like that)

This is going to sound weird and I am prob going to end up jinxing myself but here goes.....I really thought this would be more difficult....I have only had slight cravings, nothing too bad and my 'Atkins flu' was gone in 2 days......I really thoughtI would be suffering horribly (that was my pre conception) I feel like because I am feeling great maybe its not working? Silly I know but I do get paronid and this is the first time that I have followed a diet to the last letter so I want it to go well.

            Thanks in advance.

It's cool that you're feeling good! That's how you should feel.
