  • Joining the Club!

Hello! My name is Mike and this past Monday I started my induction! I am a 20 year old college student and currently weighing in at 376 lbs (as of Monday 4/26). I was encouraged when at the beginning of March before Spring Break I had weighed myself at 388 and from March to April had lost 12 pounds just by simply eating a bit less. I figured if my body was willing to dispose of the pounds with such a simple change, what wonders could I do if I really put the effort into it!? I then decided.. I am 20 years old, and ruining my own life with my lack of control and willingness to lose the weight. I am also starting a study abroad program this fall out of the country and need to be on my way to a better lifestyle with my weight.

So far this week I think I have done very well. I don't want to weigh until the end of my induction but it is very difficult! My foods have consisted of a variety in preparation of eggs, some bacon (not more than 3 or 4 pieces in a week!), a lot of chicken breasts, some turkey burgers, I try to get about a cup of greenery in a day (yes, I need more I'm sure), and have been drinking a minimum of 2 L of water per day. I also have about 2 pieces of cheese a day and some Sugar Free Jello and Light Whipped Cream. I'm not bored of the food yet. I like what I eat even if I am missing pasta and cereal and a whooole bunch of other goodies! :P

I've only been to the gym one day this week though and I need to make it a regular thing. I am good at doing about 1 mile on the elliptical and 1 mile on the track walking. I want to do that and gradually increase as I can. That will be my primary focus in week 2 of induction.. getting my butt to the gym for at least SOME movement!

Wish me luck! I hope everyone else is doing well and I hope that I can be here to support everyone else facing the same journey as myself!

    Take care!

    Mike

    You definitely need more.

What are the ingredients in the "light whipped cream"?

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

                Welcome, Mike!

What's the reason why you are not eating more vegetables? Isn't there anything you like on the Acceptable Foods List, or is it bad planning?

Haha I'm a 20 year old college student. It is AMAZING for me to be COOKING on a daily basis now! I think the vegetable thing is because I'm scared. I ve gone 4 days without messing up and was afraid I'd eat the wrong vegetables or too much BUT I am becoming more familiar with the list and can start adding more in! I am quite excited to add in grilled mushrooms actually.. yum yum!

You can use FitDay to track your foods, so that you know exactly how many net carbs you are eating:

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

FitDay shows total carbs and dietary fiber, so you need to subtract the two to get net carbs.

Make sure over half of your daily net carbs are coming from vegetables. You want that in order to get proper nutrition.

Are you reading the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution? You can find cheap copies on Amazon.
