  • Question about after 14th day of induction

I am only on day 6 and not really craving any carbs but I am curious about after the 14th day of induction if I celebrate and have just 1 splurge day like going out to dinner with my husband and eat mostly low carb but have a couple of drinks with him? As long as I go right back the next day as if starting induction for another 14 days will I continue to lose? So far on day six I am only down by about 4-5 lbs and my weight loss goal is to lose about 50lbs. Any suggestions or comments?

It depends on what you drink, really. If you stick to low carb/no sugar drinks, your body may just burn the alcohol, then go back to ketosis. If your drinks have sugar in them (juice, fruit flavored wines, etc) then it may take long to get back on ketosis, not to mention you may experience some cravings again.

Do you mean like the lower carb beers like Bud Select 55 – 55 calories, 1.9 g carbs, 2.4% alcohol content, I usually drink a beer or two rather than the fruity sugary daquiari type drinks. I think the next day I will feel guilty that I cheated and ignore any cravings and go right back like starting induction over.

Seems to me that "feeling guilty" should be a red flag not to have the beer. And starting Induction over isn't how you handle a "cheat".

You can celebrate without alcohol, too!

I dunno anything about LC beer, but I suppose that would probably be the choice to make if you are going to make it.

I tend to agree with the "guilty" comment, because guilt can work both ways and we really don't know how it will work for us while we experience it--JMO, YMMV.

Why not celebrate with an induction-friendly splurge? That would be guilt-free!

However, you are the only one who will be able to decide what is best for yourself...you just need to be able to deal with the consequences of your choices is all.

Hi there! You're doing so great!

I would honestly recommend to not eat off plan as reward. If you feel like food is a reward, chances are you might need a seratonin kick! Seriously consider picking up Julia Ross' book The Mood Cure-- that book is such a blssing and works with any low carb plan, including Atkins. Her approach is using amino acids to replenish what the brain is missing.

Did you know that if you crave carbohydrates, it's likely your brain wanting seratonin? The brain doesn't care how it gets that seratonin--whether it comes from an all natural supplement like 5-HTP or a Snickers bar, the result is the same to your brain...but what happens when you eat the Snickers? Thighs evolve and expand. It's not pretty!

So if you're experiencing cravings, get glutamate, carnitine and chromium picolinate. If you feel down and stressed and aren't taking an SRUI, try 25 mg of 5-HTP a couple of times a day and see if that doesn't make you feel better. Boost your endorphins with a brisk walk, and you'll feel better too!

Reward meals are just the brain's way of saying, hey! when am I going to get some stimulating chemical reactions here?

Don't mistake that for anything else and you're going to find there's no such thing as a rewarding meal. Food is fuel for your hot bod, baby! It's not like a pair of skinny jeans.

Your husband will understand that this is a health decision and not a rejection of your lifestyle together. Tell him you love him so much you want to live longer...with him.

This makes me feel so much better, thank you so much! I was going to run to walmart for some other things I needed around the house and I will pick up the 5-htp. I forgot that I tried the 5htp once before and I think it did work. I am also going to check on amazon for the book too. Thanks so much for your reply. Big Hug! I am really working on trying to get my husband to do this diet with me, he said today that he will start it with me on monday so I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one!
