  • Question

I lost a little over 6 lbs during induction - should I move on to owl or stick with induction a little longer? I was slow going into ketosis (it took about a week) and I feel like I need to stick with induction for a week or two longer.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Question

Did you read Chapters 12 and 13?

      Re: Question

While staying on induction for a week or so more if you feel you need to get 'properly' into the Atkins frame of mind probably will not harm your losing progress, you have already lost 10% of what you are hoping to lose, so are doing great!

Congratulations on those 6+ pounds shed

As Atkinsgal suggested, reading those chapters in DANDR and answering Dr Atkins 4 questions should help you decide whether to move straight to the main weightloss phase of Atkins soon.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

How do you know it took over a week?

          Re: Question

Georgiana - I knew it took a week because I did not see the ketone strips change color until a nearly a week had passed.

Elizellen - thanks for the guidance.

Aktinsgal - yes, I have read chapters 12 and 13 - I was just looking for advice - which is what discussion boards are for, RIGHT?

You can be in ketosis without changing the color of the sticks. The sticks only tell you that you have excess ketones that were excreted in your urine.

              Re: Question

answer the questions in chapter 13 and you will know if more induction or moving to OWL right away is for you. Each person has to decide for themselves. If you are bored with the food us saying stay induction will cause you to be unhappy and possibly quit, Same thing could happen if we said move and you didn't want to.

if you do stay be sure you monitor your vit and mineral intake cause it is very hard to get all the needed ones from the limited induction food intake. Fitday will let you see it on the reports page.

BTW not turning stix colors doesn't mean you are not in Dr Atkins defined ketosis. There are simple physical symptoms like changes in smell of breath or urine, different taste in your mouth, loss of appetite, increased thirst, and increased energy arer just a few.

All stix color is a concnetration of ketones in your urine that were in an excess amount at the time your urine was made. if you are drinking all the fluids recommended by board folk you might never thurn a stix.
