  • DAy 1 and a lil confused.. HELP PLEASE!!

Can any of you help me with this??
So, I was reading on Atkins.com the list of foods you can eat, and it has the grams of net carbs per serving and they are not the same as the package for some products say (Example: Parmasen cheese. On the site they say it has 0.2 grams, but on the package, it says 0.)
I am confused, Do I go by the package or Atkins.com and do we count even the 0.2s, 0.3s and 0.6s??
    Thanks for the help.

First of all, I hope you have the book and not going only by the information on Atkins.com. Not everything there is correct or complete. For example, their Acceptable Foods List is incomplete, and if you download the PDF, you'll see beets on the list... and beets are definitely not an Induction food (only beet greens are).

Their carb counts are not always correct either. However, in this case, it is right that Parmesan cheese has some carbs. You can check the USDA database for a more accurate number:

When you don't know exactly the net carbs in cheese, Dr. Atkins' rule of thumb is to count 1 net carb per ounce.

The carbs on the label are zero because on American labels, if the amount of fat, protein, carbs or dietary fiber is less than 0.5 g per serving, the number can be reported as zero.

As Georgiana said, US labels are allowed to 'round down' to zero if something is less than 0.5, so I would use the SDA information on the link she gave you. If you were outside the USA where information is given per 100 grams instead of 'per serving' it would be more accurate to use the package information.

But as Georgiana also said, Dr Atkins did tell us to count one net carb per ounce for cheese, whatever the actual carb count is.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

You got some awesome advice above!

As soon as I read your post, here's what popped into my head. What I know about that site is what I've read here. Just wanted you to know I've managed to get where I am not reading anything from that site. Truly, you can read some incorrect and confusing info there and in the beginning, that's an energy zapper trying to decipher what you can and cannot trust. I do believe you'll find accurate and complete info right here and that will make your transition to this way of eating much easier. Good luck and ask away!!

I tried going to the site a few weeks ago and just came out thinking, "Where's my Atkins book?"

By the way, the info on Atkins.com will be different from what's in your book anyway (assuming you go by Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, 2002), because there they follow The New Atkins for a New You.

There is some good info at Atkins.com. The Acceptable Foods List (with the carb counts there) is just not one of them.
