Do you need a copy of the Induction food list?

And why does your phase say "pre-maintenance" if you're really on Induction?

That's not a matter of whether or not the recipe is "safe" for Induction. It all depends on your body's reaction to sour cream.

From what I've seen on different forums, few people have an issue with sour cream, as long as they stick to the allowed amount.

The ingredients are "safe". But you also have to look at the amounts you are going to eat to be certain the food is safe. For example, cheese is limited on Atkins to 3-4 ounces daily: each ounce is to be counted as 1 net carb. Sour cream is limited to 1 ounce and is a Special Category food: the foods on that list may cause weight loss difficulties in some people. And artichokes are an "other list" vegetable and is limited to 1 cup daily (refer the how the 3 cups of vegetables may be divided according to DANDR 2002).

This doesn't mean you cannot eat this. but you have to watch your portions to make sure you do not exceed the limits as outlined in DANDR 2002.

BTW, you can probably alter the dip recipe by adding more crab, eliminating the sour cream and substituting a flavorless oil (like canola) for it.

I think its more about portion I guess. I wish it was something I could eat liberally lol

How much of this would you like to eat?

It's a dip. You'd need to be eating a lot of it to go over your vegetable or cheese limit.

Even with things that are allowed "liberally", like meat, oils, etc., if you overeat them, it won't help you reach your goal weight or learn healthy eating habits.

You could re-make it as a crab salad with artichokes: increase the amount of crab; thin the cream cheese with a neutral flavored oil (soften the cream cheese and that will help it absorb some of the oil better) and dress the crab with it. Then garnish your crab salad with artichoke hearts and parmesan cheese shards.

This will make a more substantial meal, rather than a snack type thing that you can easily overeat.

Recipes can often be re-made to suit Atkins. If you like the flavors of a dish, see if you can re-work it so that it is Atkins friendly. The chances are you will be able to re-work it. Even pasta dishes can be re-worked. It sounds weird, but basil pesto on hot steamed green beans is delicious. Tossing plain grilled or poached chicken slices with a putanesca sauce is very good.
