I am a late nighter so i dont actually drag myself out of bed until about 10am but when I do wake up I can't eat. I am not hungry at all. Is it terriable for me to wait until about 11:30-12 to have a meal and then eat again about 4 and again about 8? Is it important that i have "breakfast" right when I wake up?

You shouldn't go more than 6 waking hours without eating. I eat breakfast about 1 or 2 hours after I get up (I spend 1 of those hours doing my morning exercises and the rest is devoted to travelling to and from my exercise place and the like)~Megs~

I'm not a breakfast person either.. but I've learned to put something in my mouth (cheese usually.. or a pickle.. ).. as soon as I get up...
drink some water... take a vitamin...
then by the time I'm headed to work.. and hour or so after waking up. (my commute is almost an hour)....I'm ready to eat an egg or something...
but I think postponing eating just postpones waking up your metabolism for the day2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

Ok, here's my philosphy....
Last year, I didn't have morning classes, so I woke up late. Really late. Like around 11:30 and noon. So I was famished and always had a big lunch, then dinner..but then I'd eat after 8ish. :no
My belief is that you have to eat within a certain amount of hours. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and you should try it. As for eating late, it's unhealthy (I think) to eat after a certain time (i usually cut out my eating around 7:30-8:00 ish) because soon you'll have to sleep and it'll take a longer time to sleep on a full stomach when you just ate. Just my opinion :yes

I never count the day by breakfast before X lunch at noon, dinner by 5. I sometimes don't get up till noon and I count an awake day as the time I am up (even if it's noon to 4 AM). I am off in teh summer especially, since i am off form the normal job (teaching) and if I go in, it is much later than teh normal 6 30 departure time.
But, I at least drink something ont eh way in, if not have some cheese ro somethign on the way to the car and teh drive in. I haeva 40 minute ride, so I can drink a lot on the way and I do since I cannot really leave whenever I want to run to the bathroom. sicne I have kids in the room. But, if you can, use drive time to get something in.F/30

Hello all . . .
I am not a breakfast / eat when I wake up person either. In fact, if I eat right when I get up, I usually end up with a sick stomach, and on my knees praying to the porcelin queen. I usually drink a glass of water first thing . . . and then wait around 45 minutes to start making something. I haven't had any problems with it.
I also try avoid eating breakfast type foods on a regular basis- as they have never appealed to me. Instead, I eat broccoli, cauliflour . . . leftover chicken, pork chops . . . something like that.
I think as long as you are comfortable with waiting to eat - it isn't really that big of a deal. Sure you might have your metabolism an hour behind - but in my eyes - that is better than feeling sick for half the morning. :guns

I am not a breakfast person either, but requiring the habit of eating breakfast is one of the best parts of the Atkins book, and I can see why it would lead to weight loss.
I used to gorge for dinner, and then skip breakfast the next day. Then I would eat lunch, snack (on usually bad stuff), and then gorge again. My insulin levels probably flip-flopped like John Kerry (my apologies re. the joke... I did vote for him anyway). Also, my portion control was ridiculous.... I *had* none.
