  • Food Additives (list)

    Hi all,

I have just started and on day 3 of the induction, and I was shopping today and was wondering what all these food additives are that are added in to certain foods, such as colouring and sweeteners.
When something says NO SUGAR look at the sweeter number and you will be surprised as what is actually in there.

For the complete food additive list the link is below.

    Cheers!

Thanks for that link. There's also a partial list of "sugar aliases" in the sticky above called "Net Carbs, Added Sugars, ".

You bring up a very, very important point: we must ALWAYS read the ingredient list to whatever we are buying. Sugar and starch have alot of different names. I can't tell you the number of times I've read "no sugar" on the box, but the ingredients include "corn syrup solids" or "fruit juice concentrate". :nono

So read those ingredients in addition to reading the carb count. It'll save you alot of grief down the road.

What burns my proverbial bacon, too, in addition to what you two delectable dollops are posting, is that a lot of those added ingredients on labels today are also fancified terms for "MSG".

Things such as malt, isolyzed protein and corn syrup solids cause serious reactions to people with MSG sensitivities, and makes it so that even the most seemingly innocent foods are verboten by their ingredients... even when the letters "MSG" do not appear in their actual form.

      Ignominy! Thy name is MSG!

yep no sugar doesn't mean no carbs either so check the nutritioal label for carbs and the ingredidents list ofr forbidden food ingredients. Another trick is to say Sweetened with SPlend as the middle carb/cal coke and pesi did but if you looked at the ingredients it also had corn syrup as a sweetner and way too many carbs. they also toss in 3-4 sugar alcohols in the low carb stuf that says sweetened with Splenda if it is a solid like the candies and icecreams
