  • Cheese substitute

Hi, I am Eileen and plan starting Induction tomorrow. I have some concerns:-
I don't eat cheese, yogurt, seafood, mayonaise or tuna. I love eggs, milk, cream and most meats. Is there anything I can substitute for the cheese, in particular, as it seems to play a very big part in the eating plans. I am totally new to Atkins and any help will be appreciated. Many thanks

Don't worry Eileen - you can do induction without cheese, seafood or mayo - and yogurt isnt introduced till the dairy rung, and only if you want it then!!
Just plan your meals with those items on the list that you DO like :hug

If you use a website like www.fitday to enter your menus then you can check out the 'nutrition' report and see if you are getting all the vitamins and minerals you need and add extra supplements (pills) if you need them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Cheese substitute

Thanks Elizellen. I was worried as cheese is a lot of fat and protein I wondered if perhaps avocado could be used instead? I am type1 Diabetic on Insulin twice daily and was instructed to eat carbs at each meal especially at bedtime! So this really is a venture in the dark! Having read a LOT of the Diabetic Bulletin Board I have decided to give it my best shot.

According to Chapter 11 (page 129 of my copy of DANDR) you are allowed 1/2 a small avocado daily on induction - all you have to consider is that it is one of the 'special category foods' which have been known to cause slowing of weightloss, so if you do find yourself not losing over a period it is one of the things to drop for a while to check it is not the culprit!
Plenty of other foods give you your fats and protein.

We also are told to eat some carbs at every meal too! So it shouldnt stop you doing induction.

I am glad you have discovered the Diabetic forum on the ADBB index page of forums. I am sure the many people who frequent that will be able to help you with any special problems you might have :hug
