  • New On the Block!

    Hey All,
I'm Jade. I've been on this board before but it's been ages. I received an e-mail from Tom (Hi! Tom...glad the board's still going!) and just took it as a sign from God that Atkins is THE food plan for me.
I have tried sooooo many other food plans and have always failed! A few years back I tried Atkins and I never felt so good in my life! HOWEVER! I made the 'too stoopid' mistake of going off of it. At that time in my life I couldn't get back on and just literally dived into the old eating habits again.
Well, I've resurfaced, as it were, and am determined to stay committed to this food plan until I reach my goal weight!
I'm reading the newest book. I like the changes that he's made and feel like this time it's going to be a lifestyle change instead of just another diet.
I'm looking forward to contributing to this board and hope that I can get a little help too!
I start tomorrow! I'm a little nervous but I just know this time is going to be different!
I'm looking forward to reading your stories...thanks in advance for being in my corner!
(By the way...how many carbs does each cup of salad count? It said in the book that we could have 3 cups of salad or two cups of salad and 1 cup of other veggies. I just want to have a clean induction. If anyone could supply the answer to my question I would appreciate it! Thanks again!)

    Be well-
    Jade

    Hi and welcome back.

We use Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition around here. Atkins Essentials and the other publications by Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. have become too commercialized and the advice they contain is more tailored to peddling Atkins products than it is to losing weight.

The carb count for salad depends on what's in your salad and the types of vegetables you are using from the "salad" list. The "salad" list is a poor name for those vegetables, because they can all be cooked and lettuce isn't the only veggie on that list.

The best thing for you to do is to either open a fitday.com account. The sticky called "Before you begin" contains links to sites with nutritional information for foods. You can also buy a carb counter book. Some of the best ones are The Complete Book of Food Counts by Corrine Netzer and carb counter by Dana Carpender.

          Hey not2late
Thanks for the warm 'welcome back'!

We use Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition around here.

*That is the one I'm reading at present. In the newsletter e-mail from Tom, the article under 'Boot Camp' suggested it. So I ran out and bought a copy.

The carb count for salad depends on what's in your salad and the types of vegetables you are using from the "salad" list. The "salad" list is a poor name for those vegetables, because they can all be cooked and lettuce isn't the only veggie on that list.

*I remember the first time I ever did Atkins I thought it was strange that 2 cups of 'salad' and 1 cup of cooked veggies could be 20 grams of carbs when a whole head of lettuce is like 4 grams all by itself (or something like that). When I think of 'salad' I think of a salad that is made up of different types of lettuce, maybe some radish, some tomato, some cucumber...like that. I can't imagine it would be more than 5-7 carbs???

*I do have a fitday account so I will use it. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks again for the warm welcome! Here's to a new me!
