  • Fast foods Can I have these items?

I'm starting a new job tomorrow and I will not have time to make anything for the next couple of days. Can I buy the Mc Donalds $1 menu burgers and just eat the beef w/ cheese?
KFC can I have it without the skin???

What do you guys eat from fast food restaurants that is ok?

    no excuse

Going off to a new job without any food sounds like a very bad idea to me.

My advice is to stay away from fast food altogether. Especially during induction. I wasn't satisfied with the limited portions they had to offer and it bothered me to remove the breading andI knew I would be tempted to cheat.

I am resolved to stay away from them for the rest of my life, and I don't miss them. The food is costly and not that nutritious, and the atmosphere is much too reminiscent of my past life, before Atkins.

As for kfc, I do believe that you can eat chicken skin, but you can't have breading. The last time i was at kfc they had baked chicken. But you also have to consider what these fast food places do to your head. If you love the breading on kfc chicken and eating the baked chicken will make you feel like you are denied something, it is probably best to avoid kfc altogether.

In my opinion, if you do have to eat out, it is safer to choose a buffet where you can have plenty of meat, fish and veggie choices than go to a fast food place. Of course there may not be one close to your location.

But be wary - very wary.

Eating out is time consuming also, perhaps the best choice is to make your lunch the night before and take it to work. With microwaves and tupperware available, there really is no exuse not to prepare ahead. Make something really yummy and your new peers will be envying you your lunch.

Even if you do plan to do the fast food thing, be sure to take plenty of appropriate snacks from the approved food lists. pepperoni, string cheese, raw veggies, boiled eggs etc. etc. etc. And lots of water.

In a perfect world we are laden with carb friendly snacks at all times- pepperoni, boiled eggs, cheese. But like you Hollywood, I have a ridulously busy schedule that often does not allow me to be prepared at every given moment. We live in the real world and fast food restaurants were made for a reason, to feed us when we need need FOOD FAST. So... you asked a very good question. You want to make sure that you are armed with knowledge so that if and when you need FOOD FAST, you can make good decisions.

Double Cheeseburgers are ok without the ketchup... remember to count carbs though. According to the McDonalds website with the patties and processed cheese, each double cheeeburger is 5 net carbs.

If I had to do KFC, I would eat a chicken breast w/o skin. Do the best you can. I don't know about baked chicken at KFC... but they do have tender roast chicken. I would stay away from that as well b/c it IS breaded, just not fried.

Try Popeyes if you can, 3 naked chicken strips and green beans is 10 net carbs.

OR try to get a salad w/ legal items. I often have my own salad dressing in the refrigerator at work so I won't have to deal with the high carb dressing selections they have. Most fast food restaurants have some kind of salad selection. You'd have to watch the portions though (depending on what phase you're on)

You can also do Taco Bell and have a taco salad without the shell.

There are a lot of things you can do. Believe me, I know exactly what you are going through. You can succeed no matter where you decide to eat. It's all about making wise and healthy decisions. Almost anything can be made "Atkins-Friendly"

      Happy Low-Carbing!!! :hug

There's a link above that contains the websites of many Fast Food places. Take a look at them and cobble a menu together for yourself.

During Induction, you are allowed no more than 20 net carbs daily. That translates to about 5 net carbs per 3 meals and 1 snack. Also you must follow the Rules of Induction regarding vegetables. So do some planning and make your food choices wisely.

          my two cents...

congrats on your new job btw, firstly.

I agree with the other posters to your message, and that it isn't a good idea to eat at fast food places especially during induction. Induction should be a time to focus and reflect and concentrate on what you need to get your body through the time period, and also concentrate on your body's changes, such as your cravings going down, etc. This is the fourth time that I've started with Atkins, and each time taht I tried it I notice that I'm not in the least tempted to eat all those bad foods, like sweets or junkfood, or whatever you usually eat when you snack. If you are eating at fast food, then it means you aren't making the meal yourself, and you won't be fully benefitting from the effects of Atkins as a lifestyle change.

          just my thoughts

I eat the hamburgers at fast food places minus the bun and ketchup.. You can get them to leave the cheese off, since it is usually "cheese food" and save some carbs..

As far as KFC goes.. I read at one time that they injected there chicken with some kind of seasonings containing sugar.. so I would definitely watch that..

You can get a salad at most places.. just check the salad dressing label before you eat it!

            Good luck!!
