  • yogurt... 5 carb... and it's been ok so far...

    Hi Peyton,

I mean no disrespect but you should really know better. Yogurt, dairy products (except for heavy cream and hard aged cheeses) aren't allowed on Induction.

The reasons for this are couldn't be more explicit in DANDR. The fact that you've eaten Yogurt for three days is irrelevant. If you continue it's going to undermine any long term success you might have had on Atkins.

When you find your weight loss has come to a screeching halt, hit a three - four month stall or find yourself a slave once again to cravings that should have been long extinguished by doing Atkins the way it was intended - you're going to regret the yogurt.

There's no shortage of folks intent on doing their own version of Atkins and or find they can indulge in cheats that at first seem to have no effect on their weightloss. As different as their circumstances and choices may be they all share one common thread - inevitable failure.

I would really urge you to re read your copy of DANDR, do a clean "by the book" induction and follow Atkins as it was intended.

The rewards, especially in the long run are well worth it.

If you're going to post on this forum, you have to stay 100% with the program.

I personally think (realistically) that Dr. Atkins didn't have all the answers, and yes, I think it's possible to do your own version of a low-carb diet and be successful (no offense to Peterlock), but my advice is do Induction as by-the-book as possible. Stabilize your insulin and blood sugar. Learn portion control. Do a slow-ramp up in terms of carb intake in OWL. Learn some new habits. There's time to individualize and "do your own version" later.

        Just my take.

There is a forum here for people who don't want to follow the 2002 version of Atkins which any are free to use if they wish to not follow the 2002 version of this plan.

It's called "dieting other than Atkins". That might be best for those who want a little deviation.

Actually, Peyton, you can have that yogurt---if you move onto OWL. During OWL, 5 net carbs of yogurt are perfectly acceptable.

well we now know that Peyton can do OWL rung 2 with yogurt so when his 14 days are up he will have no trouble deciding to move to OWL and havign those 5 net carbs of veggies on rung one so he can get to his ygurt on rung 2.

Remember not all foods labled low carb are Atkins low carb food,

                  Happy low carbing.

As I wrote earlier, low carb yogurt is fine for OWL. Anyone who wants to add it and other foods like fruits, fresh cheeses, etc. only need to move onto OWL on Day 15.

I think one of the biggest mistakes some folks make is that they'd rather risk food boredom (and possibly falling off) for the widely held misconception that once you go a measly 5 net carbs over the Induction 20 you'll stop losing weight. I can't stress how untrue that is for the majority of us. People with average metabolic resistance to weight loss can enjoy eat between 15-40 net carbs daily and still lose weight. It's the few who are highly resistant to weight loss who need to stay below 15-20 net carbs daily in order to lose weight.

So if you choose to extend your Induction, I suggest that you do re-evaluate your attitudes and goals weekly to see if the time has come for you to move onto more food and more carbs. Don't get stuck in the Induction box. I've been around here too long to see that people fall off and get disillusioned because they forget Induction isn't the only weight loss phase of Atkins. Or they end up doing their own plan that resembles the OWL phase anyway and then they act like they've outsmarted Dr. Atkins at his own diet. :sarcasm

For me, moving onto OWL was the best thing I ever did for myself. I don't have to swallow fiber supplements to keep me regular. I don't have to feel like I'm 'missing out' eating fruits, nuts, starchy veggies, etc. And it's alot easier to eat out during OWL because the food options are wider.
