  • Went over on my carbs today and now I've got cravings

I got sloppy today with my carb counting. I went over my 20 (balsamic vinegar and avocado on a salad put me over), and now I'm paying the price I think. Its like 11pm and my stomach is growling. I think its an insulin swing.

I know I'm not giving into it. I guess the only solution to this is to redouble my efforts tomorrow and get back on track.

You said it yourself. Get back on track and you'll be fine.

Balsamic Vinegar is a no no on induction.

If you get a sugarrific tummy rumble, eat something high in fat to stave it off. Maybe a hard boiled egg or a piece of bacon. Maybe lick a teaspoon of mayo.

I actually just went to bed and it was fine, and re-read the portion on acceptable Induction salad dressings, and also what to do about minor slips. I think I'm just going to lower my carb count for a few days for my last few of Induction (DANDR, p. 13. I think thats the right strategy, but my problem is I've been "slipping" ignorantly with balsamic vinegar for the past 3-4 days now.

Anyways, I just made myself a breakfast of a pile of sausage and just ONE egg.

Tonight I'm going to get myself some legal vinegar, and restock my bacon and egg stash (and also get some more mushrooms and cheese too).

Sausage is generally processed with some sugar. I'd probably choose a pile of eggs and just one sausage?

The sausage I bought doesn't have any sugar in the ingredients. I checked. Now don't tell me that if its not in the ingredients, or in the nutritional information, it might STILL have sugar? :raving

I ran out of eggs - I'm going to Sams Club tonight to buy another mongo-pack... that and a mongo-pack of bacon.

As long as sugar or one of the many aliases for sugar OR starches (most UK sausages have starchy fillers) are not listed on the ingredients list you should be fine. :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

What you can do, if you are worried about sugars in sausages, is mix up a batch of ground pork with herbs and make little meatballs out of them. Bake them in the oven, let them cool, freeze them on a baking tray then toss them into freezer bags. Then you can nuke them up as you need them, and know that they are safe.

I am very careful now that I had that "Baken-Ets" episode (e.g., that damned dextrose and maltodextrin). Are there any other starches out there I should look for?

I was looking over some of the sausage that is sold in tubes. Some of it looks OK. The sausage in boxes doesn't (always sugar included), except for the "Jimmy Dean Fresh Taste Fast" patties, which check out.

Speaking of bacon, I was at a standard grocery store without a butcher counter, and I was amazed at how many different kinds of bacon was sold with sugar added. Sugar, brown sugar, they all had it. Its amazing.

Hey shrink. Your cravings are most likely due to a food you ate, rather than the number of carbs you ate.

When you get to OWL, you'll see one of the rules is if any food you've added causes a return of blood sugar instability symptoms (see the Blood Sugar Symptom test in Chapter 12 or 13) and/or causes weight loss difficulties, you are to drop that food from your menu ASAP and observe your body's progress over the next few days. If your symptoms are alleviated and/or your weight loss problems disappear, the food is the culprit and you should either avoid it or use it with great care.

                          It was the balsamic vinegar.

It also could have been the avocado, but I have been eating that since I started Induction, and its allowed anyways. I only just started the balsamic about 3 days ago (5 tops). I need to read more closely.

Eliminate one or both for a few days. If your cravings end, you can try adding the avocado and see what happens.

On my OWL journey, I found that I can't eat eggplant and tomatoes together in the same dish---that combination makes me want to eat everything in the house (including the carpet and tiles!). However, if I eat them separately, I have no problem.
