  • Need Some Advice

Ok, I was on the Atkins about a year ago, and I lost about 65 lbs in 2 months... this was with extensive cardio twice a day and weightlifting every other day.

Well, I went to see my doctor the other day, and we did a bone mapping and all that and she told me for my size, I need to be in the 203-208 range (im 6'3"). She told me to stop eating carbs and so I said, I'm familiar with the Atkins diet, should I go on that? She said she thought I should.

I have been on a low cal diet for a while now, and since monday (yes I realize its only been 3 days), I have been on the atkins. Well, since Monday, I have gained 5 1/2 lbs, and now weight 227.

I just need to know if this kind of thing is typical... I still do cardio twice a day, still weightlift every other day... so I am just lookin to know if this is typical and if anyone can explain what exactly is going on... I really dont think I've gained 6lbs of muscle in 3 days.

basically, I'm just looking for assurance that this diet will work for me (for a second time).

I don't see why not. :nod Think of it this way: you've been eating what you want for the past X amount of days/weeks/months and now suddenly you switch to Atkins. It might take a good 3-5 days for your body to adjust and get into ketosis, you know?

I refused to weigh myself until the 2 week mark before I made any decisions about which path to take.

      assurance is thine

weight fluctuation is normal - which is why using the scale to measure your progress can be counterproductive. your body needs to set its own time clock and its own pattern for weight loss.

i personally recommend staying off the scale for at least two weeks or more while you are doing induction and be sure to take your measurements.

do follow induction exactly, be sure to eat enough food, drink enough water, and have the experts in the menu forum critique your menu.

      you can do it!

Try posting a menu, maybe there is something you are eating that could be causing it. Also do you have the book? just being familiar with the diet isn't enough, you need to read the book and KNOW it.

        Good Luck!
