Thank you. Okay, I am on my day 2. This is hard. I am craving donuts! And I never eat donuts. Mind over matter though. I am so short I look a lot bigger than what it sounds like. But thank you for your nice thoughts.
Can any of you give me little snacking tips or some good meal ideas? The recipes I find are not that great. Also I drink a lot of water but especially when i work out...I am very hungry. Any tips. Thanks.

When you're craving sugar you can take either L-glutamine supplements, which Atkins said will stave off those cravings.

Also, eat something high in fat to help keep those cravings at bay and to help you feel full (like a slice of nitrate-free, sugar-free bacon).

As a snack, I love a serving of pepperoni slices with an ounce of cheese, 10 green olives and a stalk of celery. I love it! I get crunch, texture, taste, and it is filling.

That's weird isn't it? I wasn't a bread person before I began Atkins. About 3 weeks into the diet, I was running through the supermarket and I smelled the fresh bread in the bakery----my stomach started growling and I swear if my stomach had legs it would have run over to the bakery to buy some of that bread!

I don't have any "science" behind why this happens, but I think it might be that your bod is going through the carb withdrawal Dr. Atkins talked about and will settle for any carb---including carbs you didn't typically eat.

First thing you can do if you are having cravings is to drink a glass or two of water. Sometimes we confuse cravings for thirst. So drink the water and wait a half hour. Are the cravings still there? If not, then you know you gotta get that water in you. If they still are there, how long has it been since your last meal? If it's close to 6 hours, then you might need to start looking for food. If it's been only a couple of hours after you ate, there are three possibilities: 1. you didn't eat enough fat and protein with your meal, 2. you didn't eat enough food during your meal, 3. you ate something that has caused your blood sugar to destabilize. If any of these things apply, then you can make adjustments with your next meal---remember alot of us are fat because we have really lousy eating habits, so we have to re-learn good eating habits.

Second thing you can do if you are having cravings is to figure out if you are really "hungry" or if you are bored/stressed/etc. Again, many of us have been conditioned over our lives to use food as an emotional crutch. Stressed out? Eat a cookie. Got an A on the exam? Eat a cookie and a sandwich. Nothing on tv? Eat a bag of chips. Your team scored a goal? Eat another bag of chips. Some nitwit backed his car into yours? Eat a gallon of ice cream. Got into a fight with a boyfriend? Eat a pizza and wash it down with a dozen jelly donuts and 3 milk shakes. So, to avoid these food traps, see if anything like that is related to your cravings and develop coping strategies to avoid caving into the cravings.

Between meal snacks on Atkins should be a combination of fat and protein. The fat and protein will keep you satiated. So a devilled egg would be a better snack than celery sticks and dip. Likewise, tuna and mayo would be a better choice than a slice of grilled chicken breast.

i agree that eating fat will cure your problems. I also ate pepperoni during induction as snacks when i had cravings.

When you eat fat, you will feel full.

It is tough at first but sometime in week 2 the cravings will be gone.
