  • Cheese??To eat or not to eat...

Okay.. I have a silly question. Do I HAVE to eat 3-4 oz of cheese a day? I know the veggies, meat, water, etc are a must but i wasn't sure about the cheese. Thanks! urplequ: urplequ:

I'm not sure what your poll has to do with cheese---especially since exercise is a part of the Atkins diet...

But to answer your question about cheese, no you don't have to eat it if you don't want to.

Nope, you aren't required to eat that much cheese...Dr. Atkins just doesn't want us to eat any more than 3 to 4 ounces a day, as it can cause stalls in some folks.

If you don't care for cheese, then don't eat it.....but, having said that, I sure had my eyes opened when I started trying new cheeses! I never realized how delicious cheese can be until I branched out from cheddar, havarti and mozzarella!

Try an aged gouda...SO good! Other cheeses I really like now are Maasdam (I think that's how it's spelled) and Leerdammer.

It's a good source of calcium, so perhaps try a few different kinds and experiment a little. :yes

About the only cheese I eat is cream cheese and that's rare. I make the cream cheese pancakes about once a week and that's it. Maybe a little shredded cheese in a breakfast casserole, but that's not often either. Cheese just doesn't inspire me ... yogurt on the other hand ... :nod

Has anyone tried the Jarlsberg cheeses? The carbs are so amazingly low and it has a slight sweet taste. Carb content is something like less than 0.5g per every 3-4 oz eaten

                  let there be cheese

I adore cheese. It really adds pizazz to your meals. If you don't want it because you don't like it, thats one thing. But if you don't want it because you think cutting it out will make you lose more weight, that is not going to be helpful thinking to you in the long run.

as atkins is a permanent lifestyle, and not a diet, I would recommend using a wide variety of foods and recipes in your menus, and 4 ounces of cheese is a big bonus. don't forget to make the mock danish! the mock danish is yummy!

Betty, no offense - but you look pretty scrawny in your pic... I think you could afford to eat more cheese.

                      Hi Js, :wave

Not a silly question at all!

No, you don't have to eat cheese if you don't care for it don't eat it. I love cheese but unfortunately I have a feeling it slows down my weightloss so I've ruled it out for now.

One of the great aspects of Atkins is that we have the chance to experiment with so many foods, assess our reactions and make changes.

                      Hope this helps!

I have read that there are some foods that some of us(like ME) can't lose weight while eating them. I think this is cheese for me. But it is likely that I will be able to eat cheese occationally after I get to goal and can maintain my goal.

So for now cheese is on hold. Looking forward to being able to eat a small bit of it later. I also have to be careful with cheese beacuse of the yeast overgrowth that it could promote in me. :yikes
