Hey, thanks so much for replying! That's so nice of you

I posted this but no one responded, so I'll ask you, if you don't mind. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

I was a part of your great community about a year ago, and then left. I gave up, gained my weight back, tried other methods, joined gyms, left gyms, and now I'm back...

I hope it's okay to come back after all this time. Since I've left I've graduated from Albany and now I work for Huntington Learning Centers. I love life, and now that it and my job are lined up it's time to take time control....

I have some questions that I wasn't sure where to find the answers to on the various navigations, so I figured I'm a "newbie" so I'll ask them here:

      1) Can I eat Eclipse mints? They're sugar free.
      2) Can I eat turkey bacon?
2A) Bacon of ANY kind has a TON of sodium, what's the story with that?
      3) Is is true that someone heavier will drop weight quicker during Atkins? For example, and this is JUST an example- someone who's 300lbs will lose more than I will at 170? Will they reach their goal quicker? Will they plataeu quicker??

      THANKS! :icondance

        Hi Revi, :wave

Cool whip is not allowed on Induction - these types of processed artificial foods are at the very heart of everything that's contrary to success on Atkins.

Although it's not advisable for Induction you can make your own whipped topping by beating heavy whipping cream and if you like Splenda as a sweetener, just remember to count your carbs - one carb per packet of Splenda.

I think the bigger issue has little to do with whipped cream and more to do with having a clear and absolute understanding of the what, why and how behind Atkins. That's the key to long term success and the lays in Dr. Atkins book the 2002 version of "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution"

I urge you to pick up a copy and read it cover to cover, use it as your guide and you'll succeed. Those who attempt Atkins without reading the book will fail - guaranteed.

If you have a copy, great - read it. If you haven't picked one up please make it a point to do so - it's that important.

Again, please do yourself a favor get a copy of the book - you need to have a fundemental understanding of Atkins. As wise as some of us are no one can do this for you - if you attempt to do Atkins without the book, make no mistake you will fail. Had you read the first chapter you would know the answer to these questions and so much more.

Bacon Turkey or otherwise is allowed but you must avoid any that are cured with sugar - look for low sodium bacon. Avoid all candy during induction and future phases of Atkins that contain sugar or sugar subsitutes other than Splenda.

One of the key roles of Induction is to break the sweet tooth cycle and put and put an end to cravings. Hence consumption of sweets defeats the very purpose of Induction.

Once you have the book - which BTW, is a great and easy read you'll be armed with the information you need to know to lose the weight and reap all the healthy rewards Atkins has to offer.

            Peter

1)look for mints or gum with splenda rather than aspartame...Blitz is one brand I can think of

2)as Peter said make sure it isn't cured with sugar...also look for a brand with no nitrates

              3) since this is your second time around the weight loss may be slower than the first time you tried this but everyones weight loss is different so you could lose faster or the same...it really is an individual thing and your commitment to doing a clean induction is definitely a factor.

also, there is a limit on the heavy cream of 2 tablespoons a day I believe(someone can verify that if they know)...so make sure not to go crazy...

              good luck!
