    Re: Starting Atkins Today 05/07/05

    Hey trimnfit2be!
Welcome! You've come to the right place! This board is full of support and great advice.
I'm just finishing my first week on Induction. It's been a blast! Here are some things that I found important and helpful during my Induction stage:

*READ THE BOOK: In my opinion THIS is THE most important step. Find a copy of the 2000 edition (the newest one). It was great reading. And don't cheat yourself and just start with the Induction chapter. Read the first 10 too! It will really help you to understand how the program works.

*DRINK THAT WATER: Drinking those 8-8oz glasses of water a day is really key! You can drink more than that but getting the first 8 in will keep you from feeling dehydrated.

*TAKE YOUR SUPPLEMENTS: This has been another key component for me. I feel so much healthier!

*EXERCISE: It's non-negotiable! Even if you walk for 30 min a day three times a week it's so important to get this in. I'm a cyclist trying to get ready for a 540 mile bike tour in another month so I'm slowly working up to more miles on the bike. I also lift free weights. I have been lifting for a long time and it really tones up your body. (It also protects you from osteoporosis!)

*SHARE HERE! I've found that 'reporting in' is very helpful for me. It gives me a chance to get feed back from those who have been doing Atkins for a long time and to share how I'm doing. This board is gold!

So come join us! We're here for you!

    Be well-

AND read the stickies that the mods put up at the beginning of each forum - these are really valuable, and I have learnt a lot from them, as our mods have been here for a long time, have lots of experience and must have seen thousands of posts by now.

        :wave Welcome!

I say "ditto" to what these two have said before me and also say, don't weigh yourself---put the scale in the closet, make sure you take vitamins, make sure you start some kind of exercise after the first 4 or 5 days, don't give in to your cravings no matter how hard they come (and they will come hard!), and be patient with your weight loss. Don't forget to take all your measurements down on paper and only use your tape measure to see weight loss for the first 14 days. Post here when you feel like you are going crazy, need support or help and to keep encouraged. Good luck! You can do it! We are pulling for you! :joy
