    well here it goes...

just wanted to share something with you all..

I'm having trouble convincing my husband about this Atkins WOE, he is supportive of me losing weight, but doesn't understand about the high fat content of Atkins, etc. and he gets on my nerves sometimes. Now I don't really tell him much detail about the way I'm eating on Atkins.

For instance, I've been going to this nutrition place at the mall to weigh myself since end of November. This place confesses to have patients follow the Atkins, and they sell Atkins products, etc, but the diet they make the clients follow is a High Protein Low Carb Low Fat one. Last night when i went to weigh, I asked the doctor why he doesn't prescribe high fat for the patients, he tried to tell me that no one he had been seeing had been losing any weight. I failed to believe him. I think he was just going to let me do it the way I want to, Atkins 100%, and not try to influence me with his other way of thinking.

When I read about the high fat necessity of this diet, it makes perfect sense to me. I'm just going to stick to what I believe in, and the rest of them can go you know where lol just joking, but seriously I will do it the way I believe, and if it makes sense to me, then I will not listen to another professional or etc.

I am not hungry at all on this diet, when I followed the low fat neo version, the one the doctor gave me, I was Always craving and hungry. I did lose some weight, but not that much but I was just craving and hungry, which was a pain.

so here I go...to do ATKINS! This board is really helping me stay focused, and motivated with you all.

    almost forgot...

started talkinga bout my husband then the nutrition centre lol

my husband is wonderful, but he's not understanding the high fat content of this diet, and how important it is. I'm just going to keep this to myself and do whatever I need to do to be successful. For instance, he will buy low fat cheese, but doesn't understand that I need regular cheese.

Maybe over time he will really ask me why I am diong so good with weight loss, and understand....

My point is, I'm just going to keep it to myself and buy and do what I have to do and not worry about what he thinks, or even tell him that much.

but he is really a wonderful man in many other ways...

      Hey "divaindubai"]
Would your husband read the part in the book that explains why we need to eat fat? If so that might clear up his misconceptions.
But I think that if you stay on it and succeed you won't have to say a word...your body will say it all!

      Hang in there!

Yep, get your hubby to read the book. Don't waste time trying to explain it to him, just do your own thing. You may get "discouraging" comments along the way, but let me tell you, after a few weeks, a month, he'll see that you have shrunk and have more energy and looking more gorgeous. That will be enough to shut him later and even convince him to eat the same way!

          I agree.
"Honey, I know you're sceptical about this diet that I'm on, and I was too, until I read the book and learned how it works. I've marked out some pages for you to read in my copy and I think it'll be more clear to you when you've read all about it."

Fat is only bad when it's coupled with carbohydrates. If your husband looks at this as a low-calorie diet, what is the most filling quality of a food?

            It's fat content.

The higher fat the diet on 1200 calories (as an example), the more full you will feel.

Eating low-fat low-calorie has you eating processed junky foods which will not only NOT add nutrition but will leave you feeling tired and hungry like a junky needing more for your bloodstream!

Fat has satiety value, triggers pleasure sensors in the brain, and makes the way of eating luxurious.

As a final statement, the French eat a very high fat diet with few processed foods and are not an overweight group of people. The eat less than we do because the fat fills them up and makes them feel sated.

It's ironic that low-fat makes us hungry and keeps us there.

It's the antithesis of the same diet industry and lobbies that pushes it!

I know what you mean.... I barely mentioned to my husband 'I'm doing Atkins'...

his only comment was.... he died didn't he?

              that was it...

he's not questioned anything I eat or don't eat since...

maybe your hubby would do like they said.. and read the part in the book..

And it's not any fat we're eating, just the 'good' fats.

Hey Peytonn, you're so right - that's the reaction I get too. I'm told:

"isn't he the guy that died of a heart attack? and he wasn't that old either, so how come his own diet didn't work for him? And he wasn't that slim when he died - I heard he was quite bloated..."

                    give it time

I can totally relate to this. My husband isn't convinced even though i've been on Atkins since the 1st of February, with spectacular results. He still tries to sabotage me, eats potato chips in front of me, and mocks what I eat.

It really gets on my nerves and I don't feel cared for or supported.

But I will never give up this way of life. And I will never allow his
childish and non-supportive behavior to influence me.

Hopefully, your spouse will understand more about Atkins as he sees your progress. It is a 190 degree turn from low-fat thinking. But it works. I can attest to that. Good luck to you on your Atkins journey.

just keep plugin along. My husband was sooo sceptical 2 years ago when I started. He already had high cholestrol and was convinced I was going to have a heart attack. Then about 6 months after I started, I would over here him trying to explain to his buddies how well it works. He was a closet believer, but would never admit it to me because he gave me such a bad time. I mean really? How can you question it, the results were right in his face every day. So a few months ago he got his cholestrol tested again just as a routine thing and it had gone way down. Just from him being forced to eat the dinners I cooked and the lunches I packed, his levels had droped. Now, he will finally admit to me that it is healthier than he thought and does work and is very supportive for the most part (although he won't give up ice cream, he made the poor boy at the ice cream shop look up each and every carb count only to find out the ones made with Splenda still had just as many carbs, who are they fooling anyway?)

I think he saw it as a phase or some pop diet and didn't want to see me try so hard again and fail. Just stick with it, he'll come around. The proof is in the puddin! Good luck....

There's a good book called Know your fats by Mary P. Enig, PhD. Try to see if your library has a copy or can get a copy for you. It explains the fat-causes-heart-attacks myth pretty well.
