  • Darn Atkins!!!

    :raving

Since I started Atkins I've had to
-get my rings resized, because one fell off (into the toilet, thankyouverymuch!! :yikes) and the other one kept running out to the end of my finger threatening to jump!

-buy new underwear, because mine all seems to get higher and higher on my waist as my belly goes down. (*Fashion Tip* 41-year-old women don't look as cool as teen boys do when their underwear is showing above their waistband!)

-Had to get a new watch because my old one floated around and looked huge and clunky on my now skinny wrists! (they're like sticks! why can't my belly match my wrists!!)

-my fashion options have opened up a thousandfold since I can shop in non-plus-sized stores now, so it's not a matter of zipping in, buying the few items I can find that fit (and usually getting three of each in different colours because I'm so grateful just to find something that fit!) Now I have to spend hours shopping and trying things on :anger because I can pretty much fit anything that's out there. ..and lets not even discuss the amount of money I'm being forced to spend on these new clothes!!

-and the compliments!! I've had to learn how to graciously accept and believe a compliment without getting all red-faced and flustered. I've had to realize that while *I* might look at myself and see the 20+ pounds I still want to lose, others are looking at me and seeing the 40+ pounds that I've already lost, and I have to recognize that when I respond.

This darn Atkins diet...it's just turned my life all topsyturvy and I wanted to prepare all of you for some of the stuff that you're bound to run into, so stay strong! :hug

*chuckle* *chuckle* I can sooo relate to Moochie - she just words it better and before anyone else does! LOL

It was only today I realised I had the "Calvin Klein" look - the waistband of my high-cut undies had gotten higher whilst my looser jeans had gotten lower!

No longer do I have to go for the elasticated option to my jeans, tracksuit pants, work slacks, denim skirts, I can now buy the zippered options (belt loops a must! - esp whilst you're still shrinking :nod )

To add to Moochie's list, does anyone else have dearly beloved clothes going from size 8s to 18s with every stop along the way? I sooo look forward to the day when I can give away my extra-large sized clothes because they certainly don't look too great bunched up at the waist because you're on one of the innermost holes on your belt!

And it IS amazing to get at least one compliment a day - someone invariably asking you to do a 360 turnaround, or checking out your newly-diminished backside... the only thing I'm truly going to miss about being a larger size are my now-diminished boobs! LOL

I really really caution everyone about getting complacent with loose rings!
I've heard stories of people losing precious rings because they didn't get them resized quick enough, and I'd hate to have lost either of mine.
It's not usually that expensive to have it done, and I've heard there are things you can get to put inside your ring to keep it fitting for a while if you don't want to have the ring touched just yet.
Rings are usually such sentimental things that you need to be really careful!

              lol moochie

That was cute to read! Actually, here in the UAE there are even less plus sized shops than in Vancouver area (where I'm from). There's like Marks N Spencer, which I can now fit into size 20, whereas last summer I was size 24, and that store had hardly anything in that size..and there's this other store in one of the malls which has a good selection... 2 stores! big whoopie! lol but there are tons and tons of regular sized clothing stores. So i'm looking forward to shopping in those stores one day soon!

I remember when I would shop at the Cotton Ginny for instance back in Canada, they would have the exact clothing in plus sized, on the regular side of the store, and i would ask them why the plus sized was much more expensive (at least $10 more even!) and t hey would say ohhh it takes up much more material etc etc....

so I'm sure you are saving money too!

              way to go though congrats!

Divaindubai, no chance of hiding in one of those voluminous abeeyas is there? LOL (just kidding)

btw, do women in UAE have to cover themselves from head to toe like in the other Arab countries?

I love that one moochie! very amusing.

For me, one of the best bits of this whole "diet" thing is when you bump into people who havent seen you (me) for a couple of years.

I am used to my new size now, so I dont think much of it, but when I bump into people in town who havent seen me for a while and tell me that they dont recognise me anymore, I get a warm feeling and smile for a while.

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

                        You are so right Rich
One of my former students who lives the other side of Dorset phoned the other day to see if the rumour she had heard about 'The man in the stained glass shop has remarried' was true!!
Her informant had not recognised me so thought I was a new wife when she came into our shop :yikes
It made my day just to think she cared enough to ask but it did make me chuckle through the day to think someone thought I was 'the other woman' now.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                              Thanks, Higgies!

The point of this whole thread is to let all you newbies know that in time, YOU'LL be posting your own observations! :yes

I have a story that I forgot to tell about my recent trip home.
I got on the plane for my hour and a half flight and as I settled into my window seat I was thinking about how much less of the seat I take up now and that gave me a warm fuzzy. This man in his 50's or so ends up being my seat mate, and as he sits down he says "Lucky you, you get to sit with the fat guy!" ( He was heavyset, but I wouldn't have thought fat)
I said "Oh there's lots of room!" and he said
"Well, yeah, because you're so tiny!"
I said, cool as a cucumber "Huh? Whazzat? pardon me?" and he repeated himself....I just chuckled and said "I have to show you something!" and hauled out my little photo album I had brought along. I had a copy of my before/current pic in it and I showed him...heh heh.

I thanked him for starting my trip off in such a nice manner!
