  • Starting for the second time

    Hello all,

I am starting Induction today. I did Atkins for 1 month in the fall of 2003. I certainly didn't intend to only do the diet for a short period of time (yes, I've read the book, and yes I know it's a lifestyle change, not a quick fix!) During that month, I lost about 10 pounds, but I found I couldn't stick to it and rationalized why I should go off the diet. Now I'm up 35 pounds!! The first 15 or so pounds came back on immediately, and the rest has creeped on over the year, mostly due to excessive, emotional eating. I've decided to try Atkins again, mostly because I know it will hopefully stop my sugar addiction and my emotional eating. I am worried about what will happen in a month when I find myself struggling on the diet, but I'm so desperate to lose the weight and get my eating under control that I can't think that far in advance that something *might* go wrong later.

Geez, I started this post intending to pump myself up, and now I'm second guessing myself. Maybe I should focus on being able to eat my meat & eggs for breakfast and just stop overanalyzing!

Re: Starting for the second time

    Hey "Effie"]
Welcome! We're glad you're here! I know how you're feeling all too well! I did Atkins back in 2003 and was going strong then went off of it. I then entered a 2 year 'blue funk' that I'm finally crawling out of.
I am a food addict and can relate to your situation.
I would encourage you to take one day at a time. That's what I've done and so far it's working beautifully. For me, I get too anxious if I try to look too far ahead into the future. But if I can be faithful to the program for just today then I've accomplished alot.
I would also encourage you to be prepared. I have found that having the correct foods on hand will keep me from going off the program. That also means having some rescue food at work and in my car. (Fail to plan..plan to fail!)
Anyway, we're here for you! GO FOR IT! You can do it! We'll be in your corner cheering you on!

    Be well-

Welcome to ha . Time to brush off your DANDR (we use the 2002 edition around here), fill your water bottles and plan your exercise regime. Those things along with the support of this board will have you well on your way to meeting your goals.
