  • NEW and a little confused! EXCITED!

I started ATKINS yesterday and I feel like I am doing it okay. It hasn't been too hard att all, but I don't know if I am doing it right.

Do I have to eat vegetables? I haven't been, I have been eating foods off the acceptable list but I haven't really been eating vegetables. Is that a requirement?

Have been eating chicken, Turkey Bacon and 3.5 oz. of cheese a day.

    I have read the book....

I wasn't planning on NEVER eating them, I am just saying that for the first two days I have just kind of gotten by on meat and cheese. Do I need to start over or is it okay?

    I love vegetables!

I don't know if you need to "start over" but yes, veggies are required other wise you will never get your carb count up to 20 (unless you're eating stuff you shouldn't be). 2 cups of lettuce and 1 cup of another veggie on the list is what you should be aiming for (measured before you cook).

Welcome! and I'd say good luck but if you follow the plan, you won't need luck :wave

        20?

I guess that is my other question...can I eat less than 20 carbs or is it required....I guess I thought it didnt matter if I was UNDER 20....

I doesn't have to be "perfect" every day. But with in a couple of carbs. Unless you find that you are a special case in the way of losing, it's not a good idea to go below.

I eat about 13 net carbs a day. Anywhere between 10-20 is somwthing to shoot for. Not everyone will be able to eat those 20 carbs per day. So long as you are eating your veggies and understand that even eggs contain a trace amount of carbs, you'll find it's really not that difficult to hit 10 carbs per day, minimum!

                  Hi Steph :wave

                  Welcome aboard!

Atkins cannot only help you lose the weight it will improve every aspect of your physical and emotional well being.

Just looking around this Board I'm sure you've seen some stunning, jaw dropping examples of how effective Atkins can be. Many people here have lost 25...50..100..200 pounds and absolutely reinvented themselves - all you need is knowledge, commitment and determination and you'll succeed.

Make sure you have the most recent 2002 version of "Dr Atkins New Diet revolution" known around here as DANDR it's absolutely critical that you have the book.

Read it, use it as your guide and reference. Without the book - failure is inevitable.

So avoid any pitfalls from the start. Read the book, print out the list of acceptable foods on Induction, hit the market and stock up on all the wonderful foods that are available to you during this phase of Induction.

You'll find warm, non judgmental support here, 24/7 365 days a year by people who believe in Atkins, themselves and - you.

Re: NEW and a little confused! EXCITED!

                    Hey "SMS"
                    Welcome! We're glad you're here!!

                    You asked:

"Do I have to eat vegetables? I haven't been, I have been eating foods off the acceptable list but I haven't really been eating vegetables. Is that a requirement?"

Yeah, get those veggies in! Otherwise you're not going to get the results you want. The veggies pack a load of nutrients, fiber and other goodies that the foods you are presently eating don't have. So get on the veggie wagon and get some in each day!

Here's to the Journey! May it lead you to health!
                    Be well-
                    jade :wave
