  • Where has the fat gone?

Ok I’m a 3-day success story but this has blown my mind I have lost 9lb in 3 days. Would somebody explain where has all that fat gone? I was just thinking not 30 minutes ago that I had to be missing something. Last night I ate pork rashers including the fat. I had convinced myself that I was doing this wrong, so much so that I had to get on the scales. This I had promised myself not to do until the 1st week was up. Perhaps at the end of week 1 I will now be disappointed.
This is my second attempt at Atkins the first lasted 24hrs after which I felt so bad I had to stop.
    Day 1: Easy
Day 2: Depressed. Kept on eating (Eggs, Fish & Meat by the bucket load)
Day 3: Not hungry but forced myself to eat.

I have been caffeine free, no low sugar drinks at all. Only water by the bottle and 2 cups of decaf coffee with 1tsp cream & 1 tsp ‘Hermesetas’ Sweetener with added fibre. NO ALCOHOL .

Please tell me this amount of weight loss will slow down! I’m addicted to Atkins and if it does not slow down in 90days I will disappear.

Joking apart I do understand that this weight loss will soon slow down, but great start.

I'm sure you've left out that you were eating veggies, because you were typing too quickly.

As for eating "buckets" of fish, eggs, and meat....Be VERY careful about that because it can backfire in your face.

Your body will break down extra protein into sugar. Whatever sugar it doesn't immediately use, it will store as glycogen and FAT. So be very careful you are only eating that amount of protein that your body needs to rebuild muscle and other tissues. Too much protein will make you fat.

and yeah.. it will slow down... and in a few days.. you won't WANT to eat buckets of fish or chicken...

see.. on day 3 you weren't hungry at all... so I'm guessing that day 2 BUCKET meal was just 'getting over the carbs'....

yeah... but just read the book... eat until you're satisfied.. not stuffed...

it will work.. it will keep on working....

but I too have been excited and motivated by my initial loss..

Protein supplies the body with the building blocks, or amino acids, to tissue building and repair. If protein is eaten in the right amount, there won't be any excess to be stored away.

To process excess protein a normal body will remove the nitrogen from the amino acid molecules, which breaks the amino acid down somewhat. These "broken" amino acids are used to make glycogen or are converted into fatty acids, which are eventually converted to fat.

You can open a free account at http://www.fitday.com to track your foods. During Induction, 65% of your daily calories should be from fat, 30% from protein, and 5% from carbs.

                  Hi Colin

Welcome Colin, it sounds like you are doing great! Congratulations on giving up caffeine and sugar. Your blood will be really happy to be free of those trecherous highs and lows. :nod

I'm just tossing out a few comments here by trying to answer your questions. I'm certainly not an expert, but I started Atkins on February 1st, 2005 and I've had great success with this way of life.

I personally think we lose weight well on induction because we are finally feeding our bodies the food it has needed and wanted all along.

Eating some of the fat, eating some butter, is totally okay and good for your mental satiation! It also gives your body a chemical clue that you are not going into starvation mode and that it is okay to start releasing your fat stores.

Weight loss will slow down, and I would recommened you connect with some of the great male losers on this site for more information about that. You'll find there are lots of losers here!

I personally feel that the main focus on induction is learning to eat clean by sticking with the foods on the acceptable food lists.

In my opinion, portion control can come later. Once you get in ketosis, your appetite will naturally decrease as your taste buds become more sophisticated and picky about what they eat.

The acceptable food lists state that you can eat "liberal" amounts
of fish, fowl, shellfish, meat and eggs. For me, a liberal amount was
2 - 3 servings, per meal. I never, ever went hungry, I always ate
                  till I felt satisfied.

For someone else, that might have been too much.
But I have a big appetite. And eating ample portions helped
me adjust and stick to the acceptable foods list.

I know for many others one portion would be enough. But that wasn't me at that time. I would rather be satisfied and full and happy with my menus, rather than trying to lose more weight more quickly. It took me a lifetime to gain all this weight and I'm willing to give my body plenty of time to take it off.

Men appear to have a real advantage on Atkins in that they lose weight
                  more quickly. You lucky duckys!

Keep in mind there are many, many advantages to Atkins beyond losing pounds. So stay off the scale and do not use it to determine your success! Do keep a tape measure handy.

One last comment - Freeing yourself from carb addiction is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body. It may seem difficult at first, but believe me, once you get used to it, you will not regret your decision.

Hello and congratulations on your success so far! It's wonderful to see how good you feel. I sense the energy pouring out of your post. Way to go, you thinning person, you!

I can also relate to something you said. Until this board I never knew what induction flu was. I only knew that I was always really sick about the second day into Atkins and I thought the diet was making me sick and I'd stop.

If more people knew what induction flu was, I think more people would remain on this WOE rather than chalking it up to Atkins making them sick!

                    Welcome to ha
