Is it true that once you start adding a few carbs that you gain your weigth back that you lost from induction?

Also, say someone does the diet to lose weight then they want to eat a few of there favorites. Do you gain back the weight you lost?

read the book... as long as the carbs you add are by the book.... by the rules.. then no...

    but somebody told me...

the way I ate before made me the way I am....if I lose the weight, then go back to MY way.... it's inevitable.. the weight will also come back.. duh...

in the book it talks about the tendency for some people to use it as a 'crash'.... a quick fix...

the diet STARTS with 20 g carbs... and gradually goes up with certain groups of carbs from there...

it's not something to try for a day or 2...

buy then book, (it's about $5 at wally world)... then decide if it's right for you

      Question?

What if I'm on induction and I seriously love the weight I'm losing but I have my birthday coming up and can't wait for hanging out with my friends and enjoying margaritas. Will one day off hurt?

I am on day four and having done Atkins years ago, YES one day can hurt your induction. I'm struggling myself, but I must do this for me. You can do it. My birthday is on Sunday. I'll not be having alcohol this week, but will save my bday drinks for some other time.

        Hang in there!!

probably... a little.. but what's the alternative? If you already know you're going to do that...... is it better to wait until after then and begin Atkins.....

or do atkins... fall off the wagon.. and get back on the next day.....

          decisions decisions...

I'm pretty new myself... so I'm no expert on anything except that so far it's been working for me....

and my bday is May 29... it's a big deal with my family because I was born on Daddy's bday.. the oldest of his 5 girls.... so they all have a big thing....

will I miss the cake.... without a doubt.... will I be weak and eat it? I hope not...

sorry I'm not a whole lot of help!

Happy early bday Peytonn. I agree - we know the carbs are bad and they will definitely interfere with induction. I say you can get through this.

Yes, happy early birthday Peyton. My birthday is on May 31, I'll be 25. I'll will have completed my 2 weeks induction before then but wanted to do a few more weeks of induction. I did this diet before my birthday that way I can look cute. (You know you have to for your b-day) I just don't know if it's okay to have one free day then get right back into it the next day and so on.

I think by having a cheat day (for me anyhow) I am telling myself it's okay to cheat and it's not. I realize that in order to succeed, I have to change my lifestyle as well as eating habits. That doesn't happen overnight so each day I am not cheating is training me to succeed on Atkins.

For most of us, no, that does not happen. I say most of us because those of us who have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss will need to keep our carbs between 15-20 net carbs daily in order to lose weight. You'll find your degree of metabolic resistance to weight loss by looking up your 14 day Induction weight loss in the Chapter 12 chart. Those of us with average to low metabolic resistance to weight loss will be able to add carbs. The extremely "lucky" will be able to eat over 100 net carbs daily and still lose weight---we have a few people like that on the OWL forum.

                  As for your second question....

For any weight loss diet, if you go back to the same eating habits that got you fat in the first place after you lose your weight, you will regain that weight and maybe more. The current weight loss statistics are 9 out of 10 people who reached their weight goal will regain their weight within one year----again, this is for any diet and this is because those folks didn't learn to change their unhealthy habits for good habits that will help keep the weight off forever.

However, does this mean if you are at goal, you can never, ever, ever, EVER eat a slice of your favorite cake? Of course not. But hopefully, by that time, you will have learned how your body responds to these foods and you will have learned how to moderate your food intake and you will have hopefully learned other skills to prevent you from making a rare treat into a daily "treat".

This depends on the person. Some people can have "just one bite" and that's that. Others will have "just one bite", then another and another and another and another and another. Again, I think most of us are here trying to lose weight because we have bad eating habits: no self control, over-eating, etc.

You have to do alot of soul-searching and be honest with yourself in order to answer that question.
