This is Lisa. I have been on induction for 1 and a 1/2 weeks and have lost 6 pounds.(i didn't start to lose till 4 days in). I would like to stay on induction till I lose thirty but I am having such a hard time sticking.I dont crave sweets anymore, in fact I have baked a chocolate cake for family and watched them enjoy it with no problems and went to a potlock where i would usually try every single dessert(there was double choco cheesecake and ice cream pie my favs) but just ate veges and meat without feeling deprived. The only thing I really miss is my morning cheese bagel. The problem is that I've kinda stopped eating and am going hungry because I have no desire to eat any of the Atkins food. I thought of drinking shakes but were not allowed to and they are so disgusting. What should I do in order to get enough food, I'm at the point I'd rather go hungry. I'm drinking alot of water just so I don't have the hungry tummy pain.this is what i ate today
    Breakfast
    2 eggs
    1 slice ham
    Lunch
Atkins bar(was out and had to eat)
    Supper
    1 chicken breast
    3/4 cup cauliflour
    Snack
    Cucumber
    1 slice cheese
    1 slice ham
Its just not enough food!!Also what is induction or Atkins flu??Did anyone else hit this point? How did you get through??

Sweety, You have to try some different veggies, some different meats aswell....

Alot of people think that variety doesn't exist on induction, which isn't true at all! take a good look at the acceptable food list...and pick something great.

    BTW, congrats on your loss!

      EAT!

Welcome Lisa! In my experience that phase where you don't want Atkins food passes once you have stayed in ketosis for about a month.

In my opinion, I see some problems in your menu because it doesn't appear that you are eating enough food and you aren't following the recommended portions. It is just as important to eat everything they suggest, as to cut out the foods that aren't on the list.

It is also important to get a taste of butter, of fat in your daily menu in order to achieve mental satisfaction and to give your body the chemical clue that you are not in starvation mode. Where is your cream? Where is your cheese? You can have 4 ounces of cheese everyday.

Don't make the mistake of trying to low cal it, and low carb it at the same time. That could prevent weight loss. Never go hungry, eat regular meals, just as Dr Atkins suggests.

As far as breakfast is concerned, make a mock danish instead of the bagel.

Atkins bars are best avoided on induction. Eat wholesome, unprocessed foods. I personally think it is important to have some veggies at every meal, and be sure to include some healthy snacks.

Variety is the key to making this way of life a permanent lifestyle.
And have liberal portioins of fish, fowl, shellfish, poultry and eggs. The same meat at every meal, isn't going to give you any variety.

Add some fish! Fish is so good for us!

Yah iknow I'm not eating enough but i cant bring myself to eat anything. I finally broke down to eat some lunch, a chicken ceaser salad and when i got about 3/4 of the way through there was a dead fly in my salad!!!It was one of the prewashed precut salad deals. MAN!!I did have a protien platter from mcdonalds, that was a rip!!If anyones going to get it its not worth the money, if you order a big extra with no bun its the exact same thing but about 3 dollars cheaper. But my engangment fit for the firsst time in 2 1/2 years and when my kid ran away my pants almost fell all the way down running to catch her. Even though it could have been a very embarassing situation It felt great!!So I just have to find food I like to eat very day!P.S.-I hate fish with a passion!!Even the ones I catch myself I wont eat. Shellfish is good but only if its fresh, fresh, cant find any fresh stuff here.

When i started atkins, I stopped eating out as much. Alot of that stuff out in the fast food places these days are just trying to make a gimmack on the low carb, low fat diets. I just dont think its worth my money, to pay for a meal and have to throw away half of the food, and some of these places say "special orders dont upset us," but some of these places do get huffed up, if you order something out of the ordinary. If and when I do have to eat out, it will have to be a buffet with a good salad bar.

The Atkins diet can work, and you can be a success. But you will have to work at it to find the right acceptable foods for you. There are some acceptable foods, I have no taste for and will probably never eat, but the majority of the stuff is not so bad, and some of the stuff over time, you will develop a taste for.

          Keep the faith.

very true slimming. as you know as we all do it takes alot of adjustment. we eat to cope, eat when were bored eat when were stressed, when were happy, thats how we got overweight to begin with. The cravings are all gone, its just when you used to enjoy your food soo much, when the enjoyment is taken away its hard to envision it for the rest of your life. I just dont enjoy the food, i guess thats the main problem, but i dont want to eat carbs either, it throws you for a loop, what do you do now that you dont have food to rely on??I am a chronic weigher, its what keeps me on track, I do not want to go back, ever.Having you guys around for support is great, really does keep me on track to see people actually care that strangers keep on track to a healthier life, Thank you all, I'll beat this.

                  Lisa,

Like you, I found myself a bit at a loss when I first started (oh so long ago...like a month so I completely relate. I'm not a huge fan of breakfast foods, and I was used to having brown rice for breakfast, or oatmeal, and it was hard for me to give up. In fact, because breakfast was (and still is) my biggest challenge, I make it a point to plan MORE for breakfast than my other meals. And I don't stick to "breakfast food". In fact, this morning I had two thin-cut pieces of chili chicken breast with a vegetable salsa on the top. I buy thin-cut chicken breasts and sprinkle them with cumin, chili powder, garlic, pepper and then pour some olive oil over them and back for about 20 minutes. Near the end I throw in some Italian cheese on top and bake until it's bubbly. Then I chop up some cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, and cilantro and put that on top. I LOVE this, and it beats the heck out of eggs and bacon, for me. The rest of the day seems to go well when I've had something I really enjoy early on.

I'd recommend looking around this and other sites for recipes. Spices make ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Trust me! Most of us, when it comes right down to it, rely on about a dozen meals that we just circulate except for special occasions. The trick for me was to find about a dozen Atkins-friendly things that I loved (not that I coudl just bear!) and that has made a big difference.

                  Just my advice. :wave

Hello again!Im so lucky where I live we have a store dedicated to low carb food. Today they had a shake tasting day and I found a shake I really like. Its a whey protien shake thats frappicino flavored. The man who runs the company loves starbucks so he made this flavor, I add whipping cream for more fat, i dare anyone to try and tast the difference between this and a starbucks frappicino!!Only 1 gram carb per serving! To slimming objectivist, M&Ms were my nemsis too, now thw have the limited time dark chocolate ones(dark chocolate my fav) I almost caved on those the other day!!LOL To Reveal my favorite is breakfast food, cereal, bagels, toast so breakfast is real hard because thats when I crave carbs the most!I'm feeling more optimistic now that I found this shake, I can replace a meal with it.

                            Dear Lisa,

I'm sure you will be fine, you just need to find other things to eat, which are still on the acceptable foods list, but also tasty as well. There are many good things you can still eat during induction. I know last night I made some burgers up for the family, and I usually add bread crumbs, but i put a portion of it aside for me, and just added th bread crumbs to the rest of the family, and cooked their burgers then mine. They had french fries, and I made a salad for me. I also put some cheddar cheese on my burgers to have the extra fat. Everyone was happy in the end.

I'm sure you will be fine, just try to do a bit of research into recipes for induction and find things that you like. I know I love eating chicken wings, and the right ones are very low carb, but tasty, with the celery on the side and blue cheese.

I'm sure you will do fine! Good luck to you! :wave
