  • day 5 - not hungry and hyper

Hello all - I am on Day 5 of Induction and totaled my calories up for yesterday and they were a very mager 860. I am not hungry at all and find that I am having a heck of a time falling asleep. I am making it a point to eat today - regardless of not being hungry.

Anyways - just checking in and hoping everyone else is feeling great.

Congrats, you are in ketosis. One of the signs of ketosis is lack of appetite. In fact, that's one of the charges Dr. Atkins had to address during the Senate Hearings in the 1970s.

It's critical for you to remember to go no more than 6 waking hours without eating.

      keep at it!

Hi Ana, welcome - it is great that you recognize you might not be eating enough food.

Please post your menu in the menu forum and let the experts take a good look at it so they can see what is missing.

Not eating enough food can slow weight loss too. There should be at least 3 meals a day, and be sure to eat all of your veggies. Are you having some butter? Some meat fat? Some cheese? These foods give the brain a much needed signal that the body isn't being starved.

I think it is possible your symptom of not sleeping will pass as your body adjusts to a peaceful life without constant carb assault.

So its 2"30 AM and I'm wide awake - for the 5th day in a row. I need some sleep but for whatever reason I am not sleppy. I think my body is in shock (LOL) from not having crap carbs these last few days.
Also - I completed Day 5 yesterday and I have lost 5 pounds total. I'm happy as a clam!!!!

Thanks for the replies - I am going to post to the menu section to get some hints from the pros...

Ana, are you using Fitday to keep track of things?

Fitday can help you see where your calories are coming from, and it will also let you see what your ratio's are, which is good to know.

When you snack, combine a fat with a protein (like, dip some leftover meat into blue cheese or ranch dressing for example) and that'll help boost both calories and fat plus it'll satisfy you quicker and sustain you longer.

Instead of having 3 meals, nibble throughout the day and have five or six small meals. I do that most of the time. :yes

Moochie - I LOVE fitday! That is how I calculated the really low calories for the day. I was SHOCKED and made it a point to eat more often yesterday. My cal were up to about 1400 (which is perfect) for where I am weight wise as well as my goals. Funny thing is My ratios were dead on - 65% fat, blah blah blah. I didn't plan it but if you eat clean and by the book it just happens naturally.
I am totally not able to sleep since about the 3rd day. I do have tons of energy - not that I have ever been one - but I think I look like a speed addict. LOL! Seriously though - I do have this weird nervous energy and can not sleep befor 3 AM. I am waking up at 8 or 9 (yes - I am a late sleeper) so this is a vast improvement over my previous need to sleep from about 11 PM to about 10:30 AM.
Down 5 pounds in 5 days. My jeans are already baggier so I am thrilled at the prospect of wearing my old skinny clothes in the somewhat near future.

since i re-started atkins in april ive had alot of extra energy , and been sleeping far less than i was when not dieting

the energy boost is pretty nice isnt it?

try to exercise more during the day to burn up that extra energy and speed your weight loss
