  • Too much Protein?

I would like to know how much protein is acceptable per day? I never stuff myself, but wonder if I'm consuming too much. My weight loss is at a stand still right now and I can only guess it's because I'm overeating on meat.

    A typical day menu:

    2 Scrambled eggs
    1 C of Coffee (I know, a no no)

1 Large Chicken breast - no skin
    1 C of raw Broccoli
2 Tbsp Ranch Dressing/with cut up bacon bits

    1 Steak - approx 6-8 oz
    4 oz of cheese
    some cooked onions on steak

    Snack:
1 Can of Diet A&W (Caffeine free)
1 Cup of Cream with Ice

Water intake is about 60 oz per day as of now. Slowly trying to increase daily. No eating after 7:00pm

first 1 cup of cream :yikes That would stall even the speediest loser. Dr A said 3 tablespoons a day and even that might stall. Also your diet soda likely contain aspartame which is a known staller. Cheese has also stalled quite few folks so you may want to cut back on that.

I'd say ditch the cream, that A & W soda and the coffee also.
Once you get rid of those you may see a change.

Thank you, I'll ditch the cream and work on getting coffee out of my life. The cheese helps to "fill me up" but perhaps I'll rid of it.

Your veggies are off too. Remember you're still doing Induction, so you still have to follow the Induction Rules and eat off the Induction Foods List. You are allowed either 2 cups of the "salad veggies" and 1 cup of the "other veggies" OR 3 cups of the "salad veggies". Onions are on the 1 cup list as are broccoli. Veggies, like exercise, are non-negotiable. The majority of your carbs are to be from vegetables.

As for protein, you need to plug the numbers into fitday to see what your percentages are. Remember from your first 14 days that the percentages you are aiming for are 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carb.

And I agree with the cream----that's WAY over the limit for Induction. I don't know how you're counting those carbs but 1 tablepoon of heavy cream has 0.5 net carbs. So 1 cup has 7.9 net carbs.

Thank you all for the message. The cream that I'm using doesn't have any carbs in it, it's very high in fat. I obviously haven't been following the Induction plan as tightly as I thought I was. I read the book but when I opened it again today, sure enough I saw the cream rule on page 129.

Thank you, I'll nip it in the bud and now I understand why I'm not losing anymore weight!

Believe me, cream DOES have carbs. It has less than 1 gram per tablespoon, typically, but it still has carbs. Heavy cream has about 37% fat, so you gotta figure the rest of it is protein, water and carbs.

The non-existent labelling laws in the US allows manufacturers to round up or round down numbers. Which is why in US labelling you'll hardly ever see a large egg labelled as 0.6 carbs.

I would say you are not getting enough salad veggies, also, if you are stalled make sure you are drinking enough water. I personally drink at least a gallon a day, I know that sounds like a lot, but since I started drinking that much water the weight is just melting off of me. I also do 90 minutes of exercise 6 days a week.

As Not2late said - the carbs in cream even if listed as 0 carbs for one serving will be something like 'up to 0.5 carbs' - and 1 cup is 16 tablespoons :yikes
So if it states no carbs for one Tablespoon (and in USA they can if it is less than 0.5 carbs) that is nearly 8 carbs for a cup.
We are lucky in the UK as they always give figures for 100 grams or mililitres (about 3.5 ounces) for foods in addition to the 'per serving' figures. Makes it easier to work it out.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Cream may not have many carbs, but its HIGH IN CALORIES and remember, they count!!
