    Realistically.............
How many calories are you eating per day. I'm averaging about 1900 (fitday). Today it is 2006. I'm just trying to get a good idea of how many calories everyone is consuming to make sure I'm in line. I do count every single thing, from everything that I put in my salad to the dressing. I know we are not to count calories and use the 65/30/5 rule. I'm just curious.

I am really watching calories in addition to my carbs. I stay under 20 carbs and really never eat more than 1200 calories a day, some days it will be around 1400. I have to combine calorie watching with the carbs to lose the weight I want, and so far Its been working well for Me, but cant say that it will for everyone. Ive seen alot of people who eat well over 2000 a day and still lose weight!!

    Goodluck!

I'm usually from 1300 to 1600, but I had 1900 yesterday and I'm still in ketosis.

What does your day consist of? My typical day is:

        Breakfast: 3 eggs/ 4 slices of bacon

Lunch: A meat (chicken or Hamburger or steak) and a salad with 2 cuplettuce 3 small grape tomatoes 5 slices of cucumber and 6 slices of radishes) 2 tablespoon of Caesar Dressing)

Dinner: A meat and 1 cup of either Brocolli, cauliflower or zucchinni.
I drink over 200 ozs of water a day.

I may have a snack which will be about 10 pork rinds or 1 slice of cheese.
Sometimes I will add butter or olive oil to veggies to get fat grams up.

Alot of times for me and most people we have problems making enough calories! I usally get in about 1900 if I try really hard.

But don't forget about the Metabolic advantage....its a very good friend when you go over your amount for the day.

My average is around 1400 a day.
It may help you to find out what your basal metabolism is so that you’re not eating too few calories or your body thinks you’re starving.

Thank you. That came out to 1873.98. So basically I don't need to eat over that amount. WOW! I guess I will have to stick to fish and chicken. Well tonight it is a burger because that's what I took out to eat. I've got to play with my number and work on getting this down.

                You've been a big help.

Actually Tara you do want to eat over that amount. When you eat under it your body goes into starvation mode and will hold onto every pound

you want to eat between your basal metobolic rate and your active metobolic rate.

Oh ok so my active is is 2436. So I need to stay between 1873 & 2436. This webpage says to lose weight, you must eat less calories then your Basal Caloric Rate. So disregard that part?

My understanding is that if you eat below BMR your body is reluctant to let go of the weight and may even choose to catabalyze muscle to avoid losing the emergency fat. BMR is the amount of calories your body need to keep you alive sleeping in bed. I definitely think that if you stick to a 2000 calorie plan you will be in good shape.

But I am no expert. Can anyone else chime in on the subject?

This is my take on it:

When you are trying to lose weight, you are trying to create a calorie deficit (and with Atkins a metabolic advantage as well, see the book for more info)

If you are super active then you want to eat around your Active Caloric Rate, mine being 2400 cals. (however most of us who are exercising are still in the ordinary category)

                            Ok, here are my results:

The Metabolism Results Are: 1846.8 calories per day is your Basal Caloric Rate.

2400.8 calories per day recommended for your Active Caloric Rate.

No less then 1346.8 calories per day recommended for safe consistent Weight Loss.

So according to the calculations, for me to continue to lose weight, I need to eat between 1346.8 and 1846.8 cal per day. If I go over 1846.8 then I will stay the same OR GAIN.

You need to eat below your Basal Metobolism in order to create a calorie deficit and we don’t eat carbs so we create a metabolic advantage (see the book, we’re able to sneak out unused calories).

                            --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To lose weight, you must eat less calories then your Basal Caloric Rate.
To gain weight, you must eat more calories then your Active Caloric Rate.
To stay the same weight, eat no less then your Basal Caloric Rate and no more then your Active Caloric Rate.

In the first 2 weeks you’re not too concerned with calories, just carbs, but calories are also very important.

Here's a sticky that say you eat above BMR http://atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/v...ic.php?t=68115

I hope one of the mods can clarify on this.
