  • high fiber cereal okay?

okay, so I have real high cholesterol and my doc wants me to add a high fiber cereal to my diet; however, I am on extended induction (have been for about three weeks) and don't know if I should do this? :help

It's not on the acceptable list of induction foods which is finite as someone pointed out. I'm not sure where it appears (or if it does at all) in the OWL rungs since I'm not there yet.

I beleive I just saw a sticky recently that states that flax (eaten like oatmeal) is allowed on induction. You just add hot water and sweetener. I'll look for that sticky. My flax flour is nearly all fiber for carbs.

It may not be to your taste, but here's a snippet from the FAQ forum about flaxseed.

'You can eat flax seed meal as a hot breakfast cereal either straight
(2T flaxseed meal mixed with 1/3 cup boiling water and sweetener and spices of choice)'

If your body isn't used to high fiber, make sure you start out small, with 1 tbs for a few days, then go to two. Only increase if your body can handle it and make sure you're drinking plenty of water! :yikes

Just remember, nuts and seeds are limited to 1 ounce, daily while on the extended Induction. If the food causes cravings or any other signs of blood sugar instability, drop that food immediately from your diet.
