  • Home From Surgery

    Hello All!

Well I am home from having my surgery yesterday and was a long day...

Was a little late getting into surgery and ended up getting home around 3:45pm yesterday. I have a big hole in my right arm pit and very sore and will be for awhile.

They made me eat 3 saltine crackers after surgery and was just a little mad as I wanted to eat some meat and cheese and they said no and so I ate the three saltine crackers and then what really made me upset was they brought me two slices of cheese and turkey and ham.

Well anyways I am back and sure have missed the forum the last day or so...I was having a withdrawal...lol Johnny :guns

We all feel safer now that you are back with your six shooters!!! Medical personel can be agravating. I saw you post on the vent topic and just wanted to let you know I totally understand. When my first son was born we had a really hard time trying to breast feed. I developed an infection and decided I would rather use formula. While in the ER with my husband the doctor sent over a La Leche nurse to help us with (a little graphic) dryin up the milk. Well she was a Breast Feeding ****. Did I know that my son would not be as smart, would not bond with me, would not grow as well, probably develope ADHD on and on and on. Finally she told us how to help with the infection and drying up. Part of her explination was to put warm H2O compresses on my breasts. "Do you know what H2O is?" I calmly looked at my husband and said "Honey, when you were getting you Bachlors of Science in Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, did they happen to go over H2O?" I could have strangled her if I were not in so much pain!!!! By the way my son is 4ys old bight, funny, sweet, and 4 inches taller and 9 pounds heaver than an average 4 year old. (As well as the best big brother I could ever hope for my 3 year old, whom I did successfully breastfeed.) ensive

Your post is so funny! I cannot stand it either when people whom are most likely less knowledgeable than you are treat you like idiot. I'm really sorry you got a breast infection. I had a ridiculously difficult time breastfeeding both my boys but I never gave up. I was kind of a **** about it myself and I even cried when I had an unexplained fever in the hospital and the doctor said I couldn't breastfeed my son until they figured it out. I didn't want him to have a bottle and reject "the difficult feed". It all worked out though.

@Johnny: Glad you are home and doing well. I am such a big Atkins person that I would have given them the evil eye until they brought the food of my choice. What if it were against your religion to eat saltines? Do you think they would have continued to force them on you? I doubt it.

                        Thanks everyone!!

I went to the doc today to get the incision bandaged up again...Didn't do a very good job the first time...Did not want an infection setting in there.

I also got weighed and stayed the same since Monday but that is cool and happy about that....I will be going back to rehab on Monday and will get weighed again then....Going to let this wound heal some before starting up my exercise again. Johnny :guns

Good for you Johnny, your doing great - I just hate the first few days after surgery, I always feel really wobbly.
On the breasfeeding issue I had the same cr*p. I had a 36 hour labour, forceps delivery + transfusions. 8 weeks later my breast milk just went. What was I supposed to do, let the kid starve? My step-daughter had her first 1 month ago. She breast feeding on demand which has nearly killed her. Following my advice she started topping him off with a bottle at night, now he's on three bottles plus breast a day. she was terrified what the HV would say, so I said Don't tell her!
I remember when a friend of mine refused to breast feed at all -she was treated by the medical staff like a leper - terrible.

This same kind of thing happened years ago (when I was a newborn) but by women who wanted to breastfeed. My mom was not even given the choice, believe it or not, she was given a medication to dry her up straight away. I don't think anyone should be treated poorly for choosing to bottlefeed, but I am afraid I am one of those people who thinks if the only reason a woman chooses not to at least try to bf is that she just doesn't want to is a bit selfish. Those first few days are extremely important for establishing immunities (the colostrum). I guess I am one of those people who feel it is our duty to provide the best nourishment for our babies if we are able. Our babies don't get to choose what milk they get, but I would bet my life that if they were able to choose, they would choose breastmilk.

Sorry Johnny for hijacking your thread!!
