well...actually I think Atkins says you don't stay in ketosis past 50-60 carbs a day.... which is rung 6 or so.

But you don't need ketosis to lose weight anyways. I never got the strips to change color. :nono

I haven't had a problem with cantaloupe....anything citrus causes problems for me. :no

No he says that most people get into ketosis with 40 grams or less carbs and only a small minority of folks will need 15-20 to get into ketosis. His definition is alot stricter than the American Diabetes Association which says that at 100 grams or less carbs folks will begin metabolizing their fat stores.

The stix are useless for some folks because they only measure 1 type of ketone body, acetoacetic acid. Acetoacetic acid can convert to another ketone body, acetone, which is is eliminated by the lungs. The stix have other problems like expiration date, storage issues, testing technique, etc. The most reliable laboratory test is the serum ketone test---but that requires a sample of blood to do. And I don't know about you, but I H.A.T.E. getting my blood drawn. The recognizing the physical signs of ketosis are by far the more reliable, less expensive and less time consuming.

Ctirus doesn't do anything to me---but that just shows each of us are different: that YMMV thing. But if we're at a dinner party and someone serves us a cantaloupe salad with orange sauce, we're both in trouble. :nod
