  • Should I move to OWL??

I am going to be on day 14 of my Atkins diet as of this Sunday, I have had a few problems during the induction with meals and things, to be honest I think these two weeks were just really bad weeks to do the induction, but I wanted to start and I got through it.
My question now is where do I go from Monday, I know many people have stayed on the induction for long periods, which will provide much quicker results. But if I moved to OWL then I would have a much wider variety of food to eat, which to be honest isn’t a problem as I’m enjoying the meals at the moment (mind you I think I could do with making them more interesting).

I think I would prefer to stay on induction for another week, just to see how things go, I’ve got enough food in my fridge to keep me going on induction. I’m currently at 14 stone (196 pounds), and would like to get down to 12 (168 pounds) which is alright for a 5 ft 10 person. If I get to 13 stone then I think I will move to OWL. But these are all parts of the book that I haven’t got around to reading yet, so I must do that this weekend, I figured as I had two weeks on the induction I didn’t have to worry about the other stages but its all going so a bit quickly.

I think we all felt the same way you did. I know I was overwhelmed at the thought of starting OWL, and didn't feel like I knew enough about it. I stayed on extended induction for 1 week while I read up on the OWL chapter and all the stickies, and then realized it wasn't a big change at all. When you move to OWL, you'll be on rung 1 which is veggies. All you're doing is adding 5 net carbs of veggies to your menu, and it doesn't even need to be every day. So, just eat your regular induction menu, but know that you have the option of having another 1.5 cups of broccoli, or a salad with your dinner, etc. Once you break it down rung by rung, and week by week, you realize that it's not overwhelming at all.

For what it's worth, I only lost 4.5 pounds on induction, lost nothing on my 3rd week of extended induction, and then started losing again when I moved on. My total loss is 11.5 pounds, so that's 7 pounds since I moved to OWL a few weeks ago.

    Good Luck!

read chapter 13 of your book and answer those questions like the ones you have in your post based on your answers to them you will know if it is time to move or not. If you are ready read chapter 14 and the OWL board stickies. if not you can keep taking the test and seeing if you need to move or not.

One thing to remember is Dr Atkins said those thast do all 4 phases are the ones that don't regain the weight. Induction is laying the foundation for a life time of healthy eating. OWL is the framing of your House of Atkins and you want to test those timbers to besure they can handle the load of that premaitenance roof before you do your finish work in mantenance.

      Happy low carbing.
