  • Macadamia Nuts/Pork Rinds

    Hi all:

I'm on extended induction, so I've added macadamia nuts to my daily diet. They are sooooo good (expensive, but good) -- The jar says that each serving contains 2 carbs and 2 gms of fiber, which equals 0 net carbs, right?

Can you tell me a safe amount to eat each day?

And, the same questions goes for pork rinds. They are zero carbs, but is there a safe amount to eat each day?

    thank you,

I can't answer the nut question, cause I don't eat them. But my DH eats the pork rinds, be very careful to look on the back of the bag and see what a serving is. I also would like to caution you that my DH & I started at the same time, he has lost 30 pounds, I have lost 39 pounds, he eats Atkins bars and pork rinds, I don't. If you see your weight loss slowing down, you might want to reconsider eating those things. He is not in much of a hurry to lose the weight. I am so I try not to do anything that will slow it down.

I have the can of nuts that is macadamia and almonds and it says 2 net grams of carbs per serving. They stall some people, but don't bother me, but then again, I don't eat them that often and I don't eat a lot of them when I do. If you're gonna add them to your diet, I would portion them out into servings sizes, which I think is 1 ounce? Put them in a baggie, so you don't overindulge.

As to pork rinds, as long as they are the plain ones, they have no carbs because it's just fat. But I wouldn't overdo those either. Basically I try not to overdo anything, LOL!

The key when adding new foods is to watch for cravings, stalls, etc...

Be careful with the pork rinds, they are very high in sodium and can/will cause water retention.

Nuts are not allowed on induction, even extended induction. They are allowed in OWL on the nut rung.

Nuts are a "No No" on extended induction. I dont eat pork rinds...just how they make them (NO THANKS!) You may want to consider starting OWL so you can have those nuts etc.

I don't have my book handy, but I've read several posts from the mods lately that said that Dr. A said you could add nuts back into your diet on Extended Induction - after the 14 days of original induction.

One of the topics was related to peanut butter if I remember correctly.

I remember these posts, we could never really figure out if it was ok or not, it's basically up to your interpretation...if you do the nuts though make sure you keep them in moderation and watch and make sure they aren't causing a stall
