  • I get really peeved at stupid people!

This morning I decide to take my 3 girls out to breakfast. We go to Denny's where they have a low carb menu. I order a chedder and ham omelet, with a steak. Total net carbs 7. Then the waitress proceed to say " white wheat or english muffin?" I sound real intellegent and say "HUH?" , " with you rbreakfast taost or english muffin"....so I laugh it off and say I don't want that I just ordered breakfast from the low carb menu". THen she says, so do you want the hash browns? UGH!! These restraunts neeed to educate the staff a tad better. I have been to places where they have no clue, and then places where they have it down pat!. I don't expect someone to cater to me, but if you have a low carb menu, educate the staff about it.

Thanks for letting me vent again!
    Amy

P.S I do cook at home. Just these past 2 weeks have been really crazy and I wanted to enjoy my kids and not have to cook.

Same happened to me at Denny's!!

I guess its just a habit to say the same thing with every meal. But they sure do need to learn their menu!!

I ordered a steak salad at Outback Steakhouse must have told the waiter 5 times "no croutons" he must have thought I said "extra croutons" I never saw so many croutons in my life. So I picked them out one by one and sat them on the table.

Im unfortunately on the flip side of this- My friend works there to support her child and her night schooling. First off, those girls/boys arent paid enough to learn about everyones specific meal guidelines- nor are they treated well enough. Also, so many people are on so many different plans that if you wanted someone to "learn" each low carb plan, low fat plan etc- there wouldnt be time to serve ppl. Dont forget, atkins isnt the ONLY low carb plan out there. Some ppl eat wheat toast and still conisder themselves to do low carb.

I understand your point of view, but also, having worked in a restaurant-im there to serve the ppl what they ask for, and know the menu-not to cater to each individuals dietary preferences, and especially at a place at Dennys where there is always a good crowd of ppl. We never had a problem changin the menu(where i worked) for anyone- example- we often would use wheat pasta etc for certain customers if they asked-but, to be informed of everyones eating habits would be too large of a task for most servers. Since alot of these girls/boys have enough on their plates with their own lives then to worry about each customers eating preferences.

again- im not tryin to fight, but this post upset me because i watch my friend struggling through her life right now- and comments about uninformed servers get to me..again,sorry- no offense..your entitled to your opinion as is everyone- i just happen to be on the other side of the fence on this one

Remember Amy to ask them for 'Fresh Cracked Eggs' or they'll use the egg mixture :anger for your omelet or scrambled eggs, someone here pulled my coat about that. HTH

              Jillybean,
I feel for your friend and her situation, and I know that working in a service industry means that you will run into some winners! BUT I expect anyone who has a job, should do it to the best of their abilities. tT is her job to know that low carb does n ot have hash browns, esp when they are not listed on the menu. Burger King knows that a low carb whopper value meal gets no bun, ketchup, and a salad instead of fries. I expect them to know that! It is their job. I was a nurse, getting paid 8 dollars an hour, not an aid but a licensed nurse, I was not getting paid enough either but I was expected to do my job. And for her I am sure it will lead to better tips!

Nikki, Thanks for the warning, I did not ask this am, agian the whole low carb menu thing....Next time I will make sure I do ask.

-im there to serve the ppl what they ask for, and know the menu-not to cater to each individuals dietary preferences,

              Thats all I am asking.

Having been a waitress at Denny's before, I can tell you they encourage you to learn the menu.. not to learn about specific diets, etc. When she offered you toast and hashbrowns, it's most likely because the ham and cheese omelet breakfast COMES with it on the regular menu. She didn't offer them to you to piss you off or intentionally offend you.

By the way, low carb means a lot of different things to different people.. some people doing "low carb" might eat bread or hashbrowns. There are also tons of different diets and such around that are low carb that the wait staff would have to spend hours and hours learning about The Zone, Southbeach, Atkins, etc. and that would cost the restaurant more money than it's worth to have a low carb menu. Chances are in the places that have it down pat, people have kindly explained to the wait staff "I'm on Atkins and I can't have bread and potatoes".

Oh yeah.. the waitress could also be new there and not know if the low carb menu comes with hashbrowns or bread yet. You know there is a lot more to waitressing than trying to remember the menu, the menus often change.. they have you watch all these videos about safety and customer service, sexual harassment, plus you have different things you have to learn to do in the restaurant and such. Also on Saturdays they tend to be busier than other days.. she might've been swamped with tables and just forgot low carb doesn't come with bread or potatoes?

That was my only point- ppls perception of low carb is crazy nowadays!

I work at an upscale italian restaurant - just last week i had a woman and a man who both ordered chicken breast in olive oil with garlic and butter sauce-they said no potato or pasta because they are "low carbing". I brought the food to the table and the woman requested to talk to my manager.

Come to find out-they wanted to complain because i didnt bring out the restaurants home made white bread with their salad.

And here i was thinking i was doin a favor to them to not tempt them with the bread. :confused

Yeah..it's amazing what is low carb now-a-days huh?

Sorry they complained.. I think some people just go to restaurants to complain (not talking about Momof3... so don't anyone get their panties in a wad.. I'm talking people who go and complain and whine to the wait staff and managers about stupid things). I served a few couples like that.. one couple complained about their food being "ice cold" when I bought it to their table HOT, one of the other waitresses knew it was hot when served because she helped me put things together for it since we were slammed that day.

umm sorry but it's JUST DENNYS!!!! You can't expect too much...if they got paid more than $2.13 an hour I could see where you might be upset, but really you can't expect top dollar service and food knowledge at Denny's...honestly, I was a waitress for 3 years, and a few years ago if I had been your waitress I may have done the same thing...heh. Not everyone knows what foods are included in low carb life, and I bet most of us didn't even know about some of the no no foods when we started...

We went to TGIFriday's a couple of months back and I intentionally picked up the Atkins menu, pointed to the Atkins Cheesecake, asked for the Atkins cheesecake...and, let me tell you, that was NOT Atkins cheesecake that they brought to me. LOL

Sad part is...I ate it anyway...just after every bite I said "hmm...this isn't it...i've had it before...and this isn't it" but kept eating it. lol

tonight we went there for dinner..and I told Hubby "err, no cheesecake tonight, thanks" lol

IHOP now has it on their menus in plain English that they add in pancake batter to make fluffier omelettes. I have always asked for eggs since I found out about this a few years back (from here, of course I learned this!!)

One new waitress had no idea so I explained it to ehr and I swear she thought I was setting her up for Candid Camera. She had no clue, but thought it was weird I asked for eggs in my omelette. So, I just got fried instead....can't mess that up.

Also, I agree..there are so many different things people could be going for..Like I used to always use SF syrup, but on pancakes, so that could maek one confused 3waitress if she was trained to serve low carb with SF foods. It is easier to say no or yes than hope yo uget what you wanted.

I guess the lesson here is to try and eat at home as much as possible, then you know what you are getting! We don't eat out much, but I have noticed there are times when I eat out and then crave sweets, that's when I think I've eaten too many carbs with dinner.

after my shows i usually go with the cast to eat at denny's (because it is the only thing open) I have ordered the same thing each time.. Tbone steak and eggs no hashbrowns extra eggs.. it went well for the first couple of times but then once.. they put the hashbrowns under my eggs then realized I didnt want any.. so they took it out.. hashbrowns being the messy food it is was embedded in my eggs.. so I accidentally ate potatoes.. and was pissed..
