  • Disappointed in myself

My daughter's 4th birthday is tomorrow and I forgot to pick up cupcakes at the grocery store today when I went. I saw that we still had some cake mix and icing from before I started Atkins. I grabbed the cake mix out and the cupcake liners and then just stared at the box.

I couldn't make the cupcakes. This may not sound that appetizing to everyone, but I love cake batter. I think I like it more than the actual cake cooked. Before even opening the box to prepare mix together the ingredients, I just couldn't do it. I kept having visions of me licking the spoon, cleaning out the bowl, or eating a spoonful of cake batter.

I haven't been having cravings for anything recently. I'll have to see if my husband wants to make them tonight or we'll have to go to the store in the morning to pick up cupcakes since I can't seem to trust myself with the batter. :no

You did the right thing DebbieY. By not making the cakes you arent setting yourself up to cheat with that "one little lick" of that spoon. There will come a day when you will feel able to handle making a cake but for now it is best to stay away from temptation whenever possible.

    BTW
I like cake batter so you didnt sound weird to me!

dont be disappointed in yourself. You just have to tell your dh that he has to make them! I take cupcakes to my daughters school every THurs. as a special treat for them on waterday. I forgot to go and get them today after work. I do have cake mix....but like you I will not be making anything lol!

OMG...you just reminded me of cake batter!! I haven't done this in a looong time, but I used to mix up the batter just to eat it by the spoonful!! You certainly did the right thing and had great self-restraint in having them run to the store. Good for you!!! BTW, you're doing and looking great!!

Thanks! My husband always used to get annoyed with me (before Atkins) when he saw me making cake batter. He is not one that enjoys it before it's cooked and used to always ask me if I actually planned on cooking a cake or cupcakes? I always did cook it, but several large tablespoons of the batter was mine and I never cleaned out the bowl in the pan as well as I could of, since the bowl was fair game too. :yes

I think the opposite is true, you shouldn't be disappointed you should be PROUD of yourself. You did what you needed to do to make sure you didn't mess up. That is great. Good for you.

I'm one of the odd ones. I'm not fond of chocolate cake and I'm not a big chocolate fan. Which is good since my daughter has just started putting items to my nose and asking me what it smells like. Today, she had some M&Ms and put them up to my nose and asked me what they smelled like. And even after I said they smell like chocolate, she still kept asking me what it smelled like. (She's very repetitive. :yes )

That's not to say I don't like chocolate, but brownies and chocolate cake have never been much of a problem to me.

When I read the title to your post, I did my normal cringe, but WOW !!! Part of the problem we have with our weight is simply our intake and our activity. But, you recognized another huge problem for many of us is our knowledge of ourselves and what we do with that knowledge. Knowing our limitations is one thing, but knowing enough to back away from the cake batter is an absolute accomplishment !!! Be proud. The gift of your health you give to your daughter is special. I'm sure she wants you to be a healthy Mom and not one who struggles !

                    :wave

For the past two weeks I've had three birthday's - had to make two sponge cakes, thirty-eight cup cakes and two batches of bisciuts. I'm not a sweet-tooth person but I adore sponge cake and it's been torture :yikes
I came up with the solution for next weeks bakery batch - cover the whole lot in white chocolate icing - this always makes me feel like puking, so temptation is gone!
