  • Kind of unrelated but maybe not...

I Don't really know who to ask on this one, so I figured hopefully some of you would know a little of what I am asking about

Well, my fiance decided that for losing 30lbs, he would treat me to one of those "St Tropez" Spray on Tans (because I am so pale, it is unbelievable!!) It's the middle of the summer and I am the only one I know that looks like I rolled around in some white out!

Anyway, I am feeling really self conscious about having a complete stranger looking at me in just a pair of underpants. I am worried that I wont enjoy it even though it's something I really want. I have visions of the tanner having to fight her way through layers of flab to try and get an even coverage, and am worrying in case she misses a bit under a "roll"

Anyway, I am sitting at 230lbs right now and am 5'11 tall, and this feeling is eating me up and I am getting frustrated that I am not losing weight faster and... grrr... it's just a vicious cycle.

So basically I guess I am looking for some motivational ideas? Mind you it is TOM so maybe I have PMS... heehee.

    Hope you are all well,

    Katy xxxxxx

Re: Kind of unrelated but maybe not...

I had almost the same experience. After I had my son, I weighed around 200 pounds. (Go figure, I weighed less when I was pregnant, than I do now!) My birthday came around & my best friend bought me a 60 minute full body massage. She surprised me with it on the spot, instead of giving me a gift certificate to use when I was ready. She said we were going to a friends house to drop something off, but at the last minute told me what we were really doing. I didn't have time to think about it & there I was in my panties on a table. The only thing I could think of was that I was glad I had shaved my legs, even if only to my knees! I was mortified because I had back fat & I pictured the lady making disgusted faces behind me. I spent 60 minutes in ****, & I didn't enjoy myself.

Here's my thought.....just wait until you feel comfortable with your body to go so you'll enjoy it. Yes, it would be a great reward for losing 30 pounds, but if you still feel uncomfortable naked in front of someone else, don't ruin your treat by being embarrassed. I know how you would feel, it would just ruin the experience. Personally, I'm going to buy myself another massage to reward myself for losing 50 pounds. But, if I still don't feel comfortable in my own skin, I won't go.

    Or,

You can just think about all the fatter, harrier, smellier, acne-ier, cellulite-ier, uglier people that poor person has had to spray before you. I can almost guarantee that there is someone either before you or after you who is going to come in & make that poor spray-tanner person puke in her mouth a little before she sucks it up & sprays that disgusting mess.

I'm sure you've heard of the term "fat-goggles" around here. If you've had them on long enough, it takes a while to get rid of them. You'll come around, I'm sure. It will probably be around the same time you get hit on by a slimey guy named Chet, or you notice big girls looking at you enviously while eating a box of bon-bons. It takes time, just be patient. Plus, things look differently during PMS. I'm with you there, sista!

Speaking from personal experience, I think the tans look great, you look slimmer and it helps disguise some of the stretch marks, if you have any. Give it a try, you will love it. The staff there see so many different people daily, they won't notice you being different from anyone else.

        Hi, Katy!

I just got one of those spray on tans Friday for a pool party yesterday! The one I did was in a booth and NO ONE saw me in my undies! It worked great. I was so white I would blend into a blizzard before the tan. At the party, everyone thought I was a bronze goddess, haha.

My next motivation is to get into my new leather pants I bought on ebay. They were very inexpensive and by the fall I will be able to wear them. Hanging on my closet door, I see them everyday and try them on every couple of weeks. Its a great motivator for me!

        Good luck with the tan!

You can always get some of the self tanners available at Walmart or any drug store. Some have bronzers in them and some don't. I don't like the bronzers.

The self tanners come in lotions, mousses and sprays, and it takes anywhere from 3-8 hours for the tan to develop. I used Neutragena mousse and lotion and both worked really well.

There are also moisturizers now, by Jergens and Olay, that contain the self tanner stuff and those work well.

Just another option to get some color!

I think you should definitely do it. I will relate this to having a manicure. I lost half my finger when I was a small child. I always hid it from people and certainly would never have a manicure. I finally gave in when my hair stylist pushed the issue.
It is the best thing I ever did. Now, I have them all the time. These people see so, so many different pairs of hands that they didn't care at all what mine looked like. So do the tan folks! Not to offend you, but they are looking at you really. They are thinking about what they are having for dinner, etc... Let me know what you decide!

              Well

I took the plunge and had the tan! It turns out it wasnt a spray one afterall, it's one that the salon lday has to apply ll over you, and has to exfoliate you first... Well, I swear that I have never been so nervous as when she left the room and said, if you take all your clothes off and put these paper underpants on...

Well i knew about the paper underpants, but I thought they would be regular underpants... but oh no... it was a THONG!!! I'm serious! I was so embarrased!

But after a while I realised that the girl was really nice and she spent some time talking to me and I asked her to tell me about the worst things she had to do to people in her salon, and she was telling me about a guy who came in for a pediucure but he had an infection and his foot smelt so bad it eventually made her puke!

Asking her about that made me feel good, because I might be overweight, but I certainly don't smell, and she didn't run out to vomit!!

Anyway, I am not meant to take a shower until tomorrow morning when I can finally wash the stuff off and see what my tan is like!

I'm very excited! I hope it looks good!!!

              Thanks for your inspiration all!!

Katy, I know what you mean about not wanting to get disrobed, which is why I prefer the automatic spray tans (Mystic). But if that's not an option, maybe you should try self-tanning at home. I don't even necessarily need my husband to do my back and can reach around alright on my own, so it is entirely possible!

I use Coppertone's Endless Summer Foam in Light/Medium (WITHOUT the tint/color indicator, as I can't stand that) for the body, using latex gloves, and Garnier's Ambre Solaire Perfect Bronzer SPF 8 self-tanner for the face. (Here's a visual: http://www.blushingbuyer.co.uk/acata...g-cream-lg.jpg) You can get it at Boots all over the U.K., as that is where I got mine last month. It's a lovely lotion, no tint, and gives a natural color when you wake up the next morning.

Please e-mail me if you've any questions. Oh - and NOTHING makes you feel more attractive than a tan in the summertime!
