  • Moving On....

Welp Folks I hate to do it, but its time to Move on to OWL. Honestly I shouldve done it a long time ago, as Ive been eating Berries and some fried foods (Dont plan on doing that anymore) and still amazingly lost 30 pounds! So I guess I really probably dont belong in OWL either, lol I could just call it the "Shera WOE"... I dont know what to call it, but its worked sticking to most of the fundementals. Now I say most, because Ive slipped up time and time again. The wagon has left me, but its ALWAYS COME BACK to pick me up, and here I am today!!

I want to thank each and everyone of you, and a special thanks to Ishyi -- If it wasnt for you girl I wouldnt be here right now, you are my inspiration and a friend

Now of course I wont completely stay away from here because I like to be in everyones business LOL j/k. I will want to definately watch all of you grow, meet your goals and overcome obstacles that may stand in your way periodically. If I didnt do that, I wouldve never learned what I have, and know what I know right now.In the end, I know you will all come out on top.

Because of all of you, I now feel like one hot mama, my self esteem is amazingly high, I can walk up the steps without having an asthma attack, I can go to the gym 4 days a week and still be able to walk the next morning without feelin like a MAC truck ran me over, I can look in the mirror and say "damn" lol, I walk with my head held high always smiling, instead of it hanging low.

You all are wonderful, and each and everyone of us, will meet our goals, with one day, one step, and one bite at a time I love you all!!!!!!

    Re: Moving On....

You can move to OWL as soon as your 14-day induction is done.
I found that moving to OWL didn't really affect my weight loss, and when it did I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong.
    Sounds like you're doing fine.

      Re: Moving On....

Hey Shera, I didn't want to move to OWL at first and sure I'm still sitting on rung 1 LOL but looking back, it was a good thing that the mods gave me a big shove into OWL!!!!!

It is a tad difficult at first, but once you find your "groove" in OWL, it becomes fun, a place to go explore, and as 2big & Megs often say, it's a place to "experiment" - pretty much you could call it a "Shera WOE" coz you find what foods work for you, what cause you cravings, and it becomes a whole Shera Experiment and a new Shera WOE as you work out what foods are good for you.

So congrats on finally making the move on

        Re: Moving On....

ive found that my own modifications to the atkins diet work far better for ME , than the book suggests , i think part of a diet is realizing how certain types of foods affect us , for example , many people hear swear that the atkins products stall weight loss , ive used them since my 3rd week , and experienced no stalls , also , others here drop caffeine entirely , i partake in a caffinated cup of coffee with heavy cream nearly every night , its all about what works for you as an individual , keep up whatever youre doing as it seems to be working , even if it IS , as you put it , the shera way of eating ;]

you look in the mirror and say damn , well im sure guys you pass on the street have similar reactions , unless , of course , they are suffering from blindness , i look at myself now , and remember what i looked like before starting this diet both this time and last year , the difference is just incredible , and keeps me motivated to keep battling the obstacles , i wish you success with your owl.

You can skip any rungs you would like. The rungs are a suggestion or what has proven best in Dr A.'s clinic for adding foods back into one's diet, but they are not hard and fast absolutes like the Induction. They are based upon on food allergies as well and detected any negative reactions. Nor do you have to eat the food on the rung every day (it is actually suggested that you don't) or hit every different rungs. I for one skipped a number of rungs because they just didn't fit in my diet or tastes (alcohol, legumes - if you don't count peanuts, and the whole grains).

Just be aware if you want to readd the foods when you are goal, the only way you can go to detect a bad reaction is up (not stalled weight loss). Just a word of caution...

                            Re: Moving On....

Just adding to what bowulf said....

OWL and Pre-Maintenance are where you learn to eat in the "real world", that is eating for life. So you can skip the rungs that you know you don't like or don't want to add to your Atkins maintenance diet. Personally, I don't recommend skipping Rung 1 which is 5 additional net carbs of the Induction veggies--veggies are good for your general health because they add fiber (read: you can stop taking those nasty fiber supplements if you add the 5 net carbs of Induction veggies) and contain valuable vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.

You'll learn alot about your body's reactions to foods and you'll learn how to deal with those foods. Each person reacts to different foods differently. Again, this will help you maintain your weight once you lose it. For example, I know through my OWL experience that cantaloupe causes cravings in me. So, I know that if I choose to eat cantaloupe later on, I will have to be mindful of its craving causing effect on my body. I have also learned that I have a sensitivity to wheat--when I eat certain whole wheat products, my asthma and allergies act up and I retain alittle water. So I know that if I choose to eat wheat, I can expect my body to react to it.

I'm enjoying eating my way through OWL, while I continue to lose my fat. OWL makes my menu planning easier and makes eating out less anxious.
