Re: Concerned about my hair
I just posted about this in the Womens forum a few days ago.
I have always lost a lot of hair, but you could build your own Star Wars Wookie with what has fallen out of my head these last few months!
~They~ say it will supposedly stop and will likely come back thicker and better, but I want to hear it from those it has actually happened to, and not those elusive ~they~ people.
I am taking my supplements faithfully, so you may want to consider that. Related to hair/skin, I take 2/1200mg fish oil in the am and 2 in the pm. I also take 1/1500mcg of Bioton in the am and 1 in the pm. Besides the other stuff I take.
I feel your pain!
Bald heads may be ~in~ for the guys, but I'm just not ready to embrace that look as a woman, ya know?!

Opposite for me - beard, head-hair an nails grow faster. High protein intake? Better general health?

Re: Concerned about my hair
I noticed always-thick hair was thinner the first few months of starting Atkins. But really, I attribute that more to the stress of my sudden lifestyle change than to Atkins in and of itself - because ultimately, my hair became thicker than it was even before. Also, I'm sure the Biotin I made a habit of taking every day didn't hurt!

Re: Concerned about my hair
Last time around, I went through about 6 weeks where it seemed like I was losing more hair than I had on my head.
It all grew back, don't worry!
When the body has a major stress, such as losing a lot of weight, it will react this way. Do not worry. It doesn't last very long and the hair grows back quickly.
Two things help: first, take a daily supplement. You don't want to add to your body's stress level by depriving it of major nutrients. Second, if you aren't using flax seed, do so. your skin, hair and nails will thank you very, very much!Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Concerned about my hair
I have much experience with hair loss. Since I was 17, every couple years I go through some kind of shedding phase. My doctor says it is a mild case of alopecia areata that is triggered by stress. I get half-dollar size bald spots from the hair loss, but fortunately my hair is so thick I can keep my bald spots hidden. I get cortison injections in my scalp from the dermatologist...it seemed to really help....but it has been a few years since I've had bald spots. So far, no hair troubles with Atkins. I am taking fish oil and a multi-vitamin. This is probably just a phase. Don't worry....(that may make it worse). Your hair looks great in your picture.HW 233 (end of 2nd pregnancy)

Re: Concerned about my hair
My hair has thinned considerably.. Even though I don't think it is shedding too bad anymore, it isn't near as thick as it used to be.. I have been taking the hair/nail vitamins (mostly Biotin) for a year. It strengthened my hair alot, but didn't make it thicker. I recently started on Thyroid meds and I hope that helps me some.. The top of my head is the worst, it sunburns very easy too!

Re: Concerned about my hair
My hair was coming out all the time, whether I was washing it in the shower, or just touching it. My friend is a hair stylist, so I asked her about it. She recommended a shampoo and conditioning treatment called Nioxin. It is available in hair salons or stores such as Ulta and Trade Secret that sell hair salon products. It worked quite well for me.F/25 years old/5'5"
