  • Question for the experts - Metabolife?

    Good morning,

Since starting Atkins two days ago, I've already lost 3 pounds. I've been following the diet strictly, drinking tons of water and exercising as much as time allows.

I've also been taking two Metabolife pills with a full glass each morning. It has 2 grams of Carbs per serving of two pills.

Is this okay to do? It helps to ease my appetite and gives me a little extra energy.

Nope, no diet pills of any kind on Atkins. Stop taking it! You don't need it, I promise! If you keep taking it, your appetite will go down - your appetite already decreases in ketosis. To reduce it more will make you unable to eat and eating is crucial. Also,Atkins will naturally speed up your metabolism. Don't try to double it.

        Happierme-

You can't buy "Skinny In A Bottle". If you could, you wouldn't

A)Be able to get your hands on it.
B)Be able to afford it if you could get your hands on it.

Your body doesn't need the garbage. Induction will take care of your appetite & give you energy all by itself without the crutch of pills.

You're going to have to learn to take care of yourself without the diet pills eventually anyway, unless, of course you plan to buy them until you're old and gray.

There are huge side effects for the majority of that crap anyway. You deserve to treat your mind and your body with the respect they have coming.

Save your money & buy a steak.

I am not an idiot. I know I can't buy skinny in a bottle just like you can't buy brains either. I like the Metabolife because it gives me energy. I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and my doctor recommended them. One of the side effects from taking them is less appetite, which there is nothing wrong with that.

Hey hey, stop with the name calling!

Happierme - At the risk of sounding like I'm criticizing your doctor, did he ask you what foods you were eating before recommending the metabolife? I think almost anything can be "cured" by proper diet & exercise, but it seems that doctors nowadays must be getting kickbacks on all the prescriptions they write. I know metabolife isn't a prescription, but I've just gone off on a tangent. Is "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" a real thing, or is that just how we all feel when we've been eating too much sugar our whole lives?

Re: Question for the experts - Metabolife?

                I'll criticize your doctor.....

If the Metabolife you are taking contains ephedra, I'll not only criticize your doctor, if I had his name I'd turn him into the state medical board because that substance has been banned by the FDA.

If the Metabolife you are taking contains caffiene, then you are wasting your money---you'd get the same results drinking 1 cup of coffee (contains about 100 mg of caffeine) and taking a multivitamin supplement and B-complex supplement. http://www.metabolife.com/products/p...ail.jsp?id=711
                Ingredients
                Pre-Breakfast and Pre-Lunch Formula Ingredients:
Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic acid, Calcium, Chormium, Sodium, Potassium, Garcinia extract (fruit) and Guarana extract (seed). Other ingredients: maltodextrin, modified cellulose, caffeine, dicalcium phosphate, stearic acid, dextrin, dextrose, lecithin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, sodium citrate. Each caplet contains: 54 mg caffeine alkaloids. Pre-Dinner Formula Ingredients:
Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic acid, Calcium, Chromium, Sodium, Potassium and Garcinia extract (fruit). Other ingredients: Modified cellulose, maltodextrin, stearic acid, silica, dextrin, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, lecithin, dextrose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, FD&C yellow #5, FD&C red #40, sodium citrate, and FD&C blue #2.

If the Metabolife you are taking is the caffiene free, ephedra free variety, then you are wasting your money again. It's the same things you would find in a multivitamin capsule or a B-complex supplement. http://www.metabolife.com/products/p...ail.jsp?id=588

                Here are the ingredients:
Ingredients: Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic acid, Calcium, Chromium, Sodium, Potassium and Garcinia extract (fruit). Other ingredients: Modified cellulose, maltodextrin, stearic acid, silica, dextrin, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, lecithin, dextrose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, FD&C yellow #5, FD&C red #40, sodium citrate, and FD&C blue #2.
                Same goes for Metabolife Ultra
Metabolife Ultra dietary supplement--the healthy way to stay on track.

Other ingredients: Maltodextrin, modified cellulose, caffeine, dicalcium phosphate, stearic acid, silica, dextrin, dextrose, lecithin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, sodium citrate. And Metabolife Green Tea

Ingredients: Calcium (as hydroxycitrate and dicalcium phosphate) (40 mg), copper (as sodium copper chlorophyllin) (300mcg), Chromium (as chromium piccolinate) (133 mcg), Sodium (60 mg), Potassium (30 mg), and a proprietary blend (1,032 mg total) of the following: Super Citrimax® Garcinia cambogia extract (fruit) (standardized for hydroxycitric acid), Green tea extract (leaf) (standardized for EGCG and total catechins), , Guarana extract (seed) (standardized for caffeine), Yerba mate extract (leaf) (standardized for caffeine).

Each of these products direct you to take 1-2 capsules before each meal.

You might want to ask your doctor about a condition called "hypervitaminosis".

Re: Question for the experts - Metabolife?

                  Yikes. Defensive, much?

When you choose to ask a general question without giving a history or details with it, you're going to get a general response - which is what you did and what you got.

People are forever looking for a magic answer to a predicament they get themselves into and let's face it, the "Skinny In A Bottle" industry is making HUGE amounts of money off it.

They give you energy? The energy is false - an illusion at best - and only lasts as long as you've got the $$ to keep popping. Lifestyle changes, on the other hand, have long term side effects too - like health, energy, and self reliance. A doctor essentially prescribing this garbage would set every red flag I have to flying high.

not2late is, as usual, 100% on the mark. She's awesome like that You're not getting anything from that junk that you can't get naturally - in a more pure and healthy form, and considerably cheaper - as not2late so eloquently pointed out.

                  Take care.

Doesn't Atkins give you all the metabolic edge you need? If it's increased energy you're after, wouldn't something ephedra-free be a more viable alternative?

Spiel. Since you are posting among informed individuals genuinely looking out for others' best interests regarding low-carbohydrate eating and otherwise, you might not always get a simplistic, one-word response to queries - especially ones as serious as those pertaining to illegal and potentially health-hazardous herb ma huang. At any rate, best of luck with coping with CFS and succeeding with the Atkins program.
