  • Its late at night...

    ...and I'm really fighting the urge to eat all the sugary carbs I can get my hands on!!!

    Ugh, it does take willpower. It was an old habit, eating a very starchy dinner and then finish with two bowls of ice cream. Junk food through out the day, of course.

    But I don't give in, I resist, reminding myself I'm eating now for fuel, not anxiety. Alas, the food does get boring sometimes, although I'm doing several recipes and trying new food combinations (hamburgers with mustard is a recent revelation when out fast food eating).

    And I remember that eating all those carbs is such a short fix if I do give in. I mean, its not worth the guilt, and the fact that the carbs are such empty and meaningless foods. And I just want more anyway, its evenutually not satisfying, that crazy sugar/insulin roller coaster.

    I have to say, its getting easier overall, but it does seem that some of these urges get stronger the closer I reach my goal weight. Not just a coincidence, I'm thinking.

    Anyway, the proof that the struggle is worth all this is the scale (down 24 lbs), my belt (on the last hole), and fitting in my old clothes. Oh, and all this newfound energy!

    Atkins is so much about the food and what to eat and what not to eat, but after the basics, it comes down to the old habits and "stinkin' thinkin'" that got us here in the first place. New behaviors have to replace old bad habits ... no question it is easier said than done, but you are proof that it is worth it ! Congratulations on your weight loss !

      Are you giving yourself something high fat to eat to help curb the cravings? It really works!

          First of all WAY TO go on resisting all those bad carbs that you don't need. By resisting you are really making yourself stronger and you can look back tomorrow and be soo proud cause you didn't give in to temptation.

          I used to have the same problem as you eat a big dinner and then have 2 bowl of icecream or captain crunch it was such a visious cycle and I am happy to say with persistance I no longer have that problem and the cravings are basically gone. I do have the odd one at TOM but, never like I did before.

          Like others have said have a high fat sncak I find eggs dipped in mayo or deviled eggs are very good to have if you are craving like crazy. It helps me any how.

            Hi, I noticed you are close to goal. Maybe you should think about switching to OWL and going through the rungs. You would have more variety of foods and not be as tempted to cheat.

              i usually go thru cravings too..but slowly I get over it, since there's nothing bad in my house
