Lost 12 lbs on induction ... lookin' for 20 more by September 8th. I am a new board member with Southwest Outreach for Diabetics and my first meeting is 8th of September. This is the advisory board for the Diabetes Educators in southwest New Mexico. They are openly antagonistic toward this WOE and I have a feeling that they will invite me to find something more appropriate to do for our community. Allow me to explain ...
Recently diagnosed with diabetes (May 8th), the Practicioner that I see asked me to join the board because they were looking for someone influencial in the community to be on their board. Flattered by the offer (manipulation) I accepted. Over the course of the next 4 weeks I followed my Practicioners advise and went to the Diabetes Educator's classes and ate the diet (45g of carbs) and pills (metformin & actos) they prescribed. Logging my BG levels faithfully I found that I was only within the range they set as my goal (under 140) one time in the two month period (May 8 - June 2). Talk about frustration !
My ankles were swelling from the meds and I was experiencing general malise constantly. I was having to nap daily to keep up my regular ADL's and was getting pretty tired of the whole mess.
I ran out of meds on the 28th of June and just decided that I was going to stop the meds and try this WOE and just see what would happen. Well, the next morning I was under 140 BG ! I have been testing twice a day since then and I have NEVER been above 140 since starting this WOL. As a matter of fact, I have been around 110 for an average and even after meals my BG has never spiked. The swelling in my legs is gone and my energy levels are spectacular !
Now I have two separate BG logs ... one that has the data while I was following the advise of these educators I will be meeting with that shows an out of control diabetic; and one that shows a normal BG individual that is just eating the way they specifically warned me against. I would like to go into that meeting with a total weight loss of 40 lbs besides if I can acheive it.
Soooo, it looks like extended induction until I see a 100 lb loss ...
