  • Which counter is best?

Here's something that has eluded me for weeks now....

Which carb counter do you follow?? I get conflicting numbers in different places.. There's the DANDR book for one; "The any diet diary" which came with DANDR; There's another site I've used called CalorieKing.com; and finally the package of what you're eating!

All these places can list the same food at different carbs. What to do?

It does get confusing doesn't it? Most counters use either the USDA's Nutrient Database or they use multiple sources and take an average.

The best thing to do is the pick one counter and use that. In terms of packaged foods or restaurant foods, it's best to use the values the manufacturer gives. For example, if you use Green Giant frozen green beans, then you use the counts on the Green Giant bag. But if you buy the store brand one time, then use the counts on that bag. Same thing for restaurants. If they have nutritional data on their website, use that because recipes vary from restaurant chain to restaurant chain. In fact, they can vary slightly between restaurants (there was a Dateline NBC a couple of years ago that showed this). So whenever I eat out, I make sure I'm below my daily carbs by at least 5 net carbs in order to make up for any of these slight variations.
