  • newbie in ketosis?

    i'd love to know how i would know if i was in ketosis or not!!?? thanks so much...

    You can but Kitostix or other brand at the pharmacy. They are described in the book. Chances are if you have been on a clean induction for 2 or three days you are. THe sticks will prove it for your piece of mind, but after that, as long as you stay in induction you will stay there.

      If you haven't gotten the sticks yet...have you noticed that your breath is kinda sticky and metallic tasting?? If it is, that's keto-breath...and a sure sign that you're in! I've heard that some people don't get it really noticibly. I feel like I reek all the time, but my partner says that he hasn't noticed. Maybe it's because I'm brushing my teeth 10 times a day. Ketosis is good for dental health in that way, too, I'm finding!

        i have a question about this. when you use the sticks, what color are they supposted to turn? and also, if you dont use the sticks, can you tell just by the color of the urine. like if its really light, almost clear...thats a good sign? or is that not true? and then the opposite, if its darks it BAD!???

          any color change on the sticks means you had excess ketones in your blood stream at the time that urine was made. It is like being preg you are or your aren't color or how concentrated your ketones are in your pee which is what those sticks telll you isn't important.

          There are physical signs as well many are listed in the FAQ topic about them some are increased thirst, loss of appetite, change in smell or urine, sweat or breath, sweet, or metalic taste in mouth, increase in enegry and many others.

          Once you get to ketosis as defined by Dr Atkins as the burniong of fats for fuel you will not be out unless you add more carbs to your diet,or decrease your activities. Save your money and skip the sticks.

            Really light almost clear urine means you are drinking enough water, so that is a way to go!!!!!!!!!!

                When I first started this WOE, I really wanted to KNOW if I was in ketosis, so I bought the stix at Hi Health. Now, many months later, I never check. Once you know, or smell your urine, its pretty obvious, and when the pounds come off, that's really all that matters!
                Just want to welcome you and let you know that we all lose weight at different speeds and that the MOST IMPORTANT thing to do is to keep with the program and eventually you will feel better and lose inches and pounds. I am a slow loser, but I still have many benefits along the way - inches lost (please measure yourself right now if you haven't already done so), better results on my bloodwork, and an overall general good feeling!

                  My husband has lost 39 pounds and he never changed the color on the sticks, I on the other hand turn them dark purple all the time. If you get the sticks and they don't change color, don't get discouraged!
