Re: No ketosis for a month! Help!

wantabe not top hijacvk this topic but every humnan being on earth not hooked up to a feeing line is in ketosis every night whiukle thwey are sleeping cause thay have burned off dinners carbs and the blood sugar level dropped and the glycogen evoked the fat cells to release fats for fuel . When they wake up and eat rthey will go back into carb burning until that meal's carbs is used up and then do some fat burning too.

2Big, can that really be true? Why, then, wouldn't it take as little as one night to begin ketosis, assuming the appropriate foods were eaten the prior day? it takes me as many as 6 days sometimes... and I'm 99% by the book (still drinking 1 cup of coffee a day). Any thoughts?

Bug out you do not understand ketosis. All it is is the burning of fats rro fuel period according to Dr Atkins definition. it has nothing to do with turning colors on stixs. All those stix show you is the excess amount of ketones you had in your blood no being burned for fuel at the time that urine was made. you can be in Dr Atkins ketosis effeicently burning your fats and never have enough ketones to turn a stix.

okay a little bio 101 Think of your body as a hybryd car. human bodies can and do burn many fuels carbs, proteins, fats and alcohol (not in that order).

It takes the least amount of energy to burn sugars from carbs so the human body burns those first when the dietary carbs are high and often supplied we have a constant supply of sugar and the sugar burning hormone called insulin is high. When the blood sugar gets low and no more sugar carbs are left in the digestive system the body looks for other fuels. As the demand for insulin to burn those sugars goes down the body releases another hormone called glucogon which tells fat cells to release fats for burning and and beta oxydation of fats occurs. BUT it also tells the liver UT OH out of sugar release your stores and make some more. Poof the liver releases those glycogen stores you read about as do other organs that have been storing them and the blood sugar level goes back up again. now it gets tricky if the beta oxidation of those fats can make enough energy molecules ATP to meet demand ( which is low during sleep) before the blood stream gets saturated again with sugars from those stores then the released sugars will be stored in the muscles as a phosphate glucose molecule and fat burning will continue. But if the energy is low then the enzyme that makes those sugars store will be in the inactive stage and poof sugar burning is going on and fat burning as the primary fuel stops.

Once we Atkineers have done several days of induction the glycogen stores have been used up all day long and there are very little dietary carbs for fuel too and when they glucogon hormone says OH liver give us some sugar... there isn't any to release so it has to generate some from the spent sugar burning molecules which takes energy, from the proteins which takes enrgy and from the glycerol molecule in the fracturing of the fats which also takes enrgy. When energy is low our bodiues do not like to share energy to make sugar soooooooooo those fats that were fractured to make the fatty acids and the glycerol now are being transported and burned as the primary fuel source in our powerplants called mitochondria and breaking fatty acids carbon for carbon gives more energy then the sugars do so our body builds up the transportation molecules and enzymes needed to breakdown and burn the fats we are constantly supplying our bodies with through our diet intake (see there is a real reason why we shouldn't get our carbs nor or proteins too high) and the body stores. Our muscles that for yrs were every efficent sugar burners become better at using fats for fuel by growing more of those powerplant mitochondrias for burning the fats too and will actually start to store fatty acids like they did glycogen for quicker fuels.

As long as we supply them with fats to burn they are happy and keep burning fats but if we don't either by cheating and having a carb pig out or fail to keep our dietary fats high enough allow the sugar system to burn again the the fats will again stop being burned until those other fuels are used up.

There are some cells like red blood cells that don't have mitochondria and need sugars for fuels which is why we don't mind that we are eating some carbs and why we don't mind that some of the proteins are being made it to sugars as long as the amounts do not exceed our body's thresholds for keeping our fats burning for fuels too.
